It’s now a depression, the NHC currently has it south of Puerto Rico on Saturday as a cat 1.

What if the worst case climate change models are actually too conservative? Have a feeling this El Nino event will continue to smash all-time records.

Maybe, maybe not. Last winter, part of the third La Nina cycle in a row, was exactly what the West needed. And the snowpack hasn't rapidly melted, at least not yet. The strong El Nino events I lived through in either SoCal or NoCal didn't impact water supply as much as last winter seems to have.

This morning’s models suggest Bret will fizzle and/or stay south of the Yucatán and 93 will curve north. Stay tuned

Allstate and State Farm insurance companies are not writing new homeowner policies in California due to wildfires. Was on the news 2 days ago.

Now that weather is changing due to increased temps I think there’s going to be a further reset as to insurance costs and availability, for different states. Florida needs to find a way to increase the insurance reserves. There’s going to be another hurricane hit in the gulf coast. And then another but hopefully spread out over the years.

Agree with all you say about the insurance market. Two quibbles. It doesn't appear any more that big impact Gulf Coast storms are every 10 year event or even every five, more like 2-3 at most. And in reality, even with reserves, living on the beautiful Florida coast may just bee too expensive for most all, at least if rates reflect true risk

Florida’s coastline should be a giant park.

There goes the tourist industry along with a lot of property tax revenue. Other than that,,,,,,

LA, San Fran, NY etc. all need to be giant parks.

Let’s do it. Who’s with me?

Not that I am saying I support it, but why would the tourist industry go? Parks actually draw people to them, not the opposite. And people still have to live somewhere, the tax revenue would largely be made up in other places. Maybe even two blocks from the water instead of on it.

Bret is officially done, because of unfavorable wind shear. Just a big rain storm for the outer islands now.

Weather hasnt pushed out of the 70’s in NC all year and Texas is having a heat wave, the Atlantic is warm, and we are on the lookout for hurricanes? Geez… I’d simply like to get a weekend of pool weather soon.

Whenever someone tells me to “beware” something I think of one of my favorite Simpsons quotes:

Lisa -“Beware the Ides of March”
    Homer- “No”

2 blocks from the water isn’t any different if you’re talking about hurricanes and storm surge. Isn’t that why people need to move away from the coast?

The taxes on the water vs a block away are significantly more, lots more.

No way parks would bring in close to the revenue as beach rentals that pay a hefty tourist tax to the state.
