Rather than President Biden who would be the best option for Democrats?

I added a bit more to explain. I only watched a couple of minutes but Newsom kept his cool and stated statistics, Hannity changed the subject.

He definitely should be inspecting railcar wheel bearings himself. Gotta fault him for that one.
I can't recall if I told the story or not, but my best friend works in railroad safety engineering an gave me the entire backstory on the cause of the accident. Basically said not much you could do unless you want companies to spend gobs of money on bearing monitors for all cars on every train. It wasn't a realistic option, basically

I'm not well-versed in transportation issues, so can you explain?

His business experience is working for a consulting firm like the Bobs in Office Space, and his military experience was surfing the web on his laptop, and he won an election where maybe 10,000 people voted.

Gov Nuisance is the best fiscal stimulus a state could ask for...if you're the governor of Nevada,
Florida, Texas, Arizona, Idaho or Tennessee.
However, he's the worst thing the Golden State needs right now or ever.
He escaped a recall because the unions are beholden to him just like the Biden crime family.
We have a huge budget deficit and he's running out of big tech money and support.

Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way, I think pretty much every transportation related issue has been "thats not his purview" so I couldnt actually tell you what he does or doesnt do, lots of things seem to happen outside whatever their jurisdiction is. He does get write ups in the paper and such though.

Interesting that California, that horrible failure, subsidizes those states you mention so they can survive.

That sounds like exactly what I want in federal govt! "What exactly would you say you do here?"

Well that's the thing, whenever something happens this is sort of the response "well, what was he supposed to do." The fact that no one can say what that position actually does makes it seem like a make work type of job. If he spends his days drawing up white papers about better gas mileage, I'm not sure what experience he's gaining.

Wow. That was an epic beat down.

Newsom may not be my favorite but he clearly has political chops.

I found this column interesting on Newsom’s frustration and the CA far left.

Opinion | ‘What the Hell Happened to the California of the ’50s and ’60s?’

I suspect some of the Buttegeg and Newsom negativity here comes from their white maleness.

Sounds like the Bobs could get rid of it then. I'm okay with that.

But for real. I'm basing it mainly off his campaign in 2020. Nothing he has done as transportation secretary strikes me as noteworthy one way or the other.

In American politics, the game right now is to turn out the people that are only marginally connected to the political system. On the left, this tends to be racial minorities who feel only marginally connected to the system (especially middle-aged and older), while on the right, it tends to be the Obama birth certificate folks. Biden works, despite his flaws, because African-Americans, especially older ones, tend to like him while the fact that he is a white male tends to lower the id of the marginal voting right.

While I personally like Buttitieg, I am not sure he would be the best candidate for appealing to middle aged and older racial minority voters. I'd probably list Gretchen Whitmer, Wes Moore, maybe Hakeem Jeffries. Moore is only on the list because we are really talking about 2028, as Biden is running in 2024.

Pete suffers from the Mitt Romney problem, he looks and acts like the guy that lays you off, and like Mitt Romney, he really was that guy for awhile

They would still regard him as a conspiracy nut post-mortem. It's almost like "what's the point" anymore, because they ignore the evidence that's right in front of them as it is.

It's hard to say who'd be best for Dems because most fresher politicians who voters may find interesting haven't been tested by the gauntlet that comes with national level scrutiny. Biden also benefited from his relationship with Obama and his 8 years in the White House. I'd send Obama back out there if we could put him in a disguise and get away with it.

I think you make some good points here and I mostly agree. I’d worry a little about Buttegeg and Newsom and how they’d play in the Midwest, GA or AZ. Whitmer probably has more appeal. The downside of Whitmer is she doesn’t have a lot of experience on the national stage so she’s untested. Buttegeg and Newsom can handle themselves.

In terms of Wes Moore or Jeffries, they too are a bit green on the national stage.
