It would probably have to be a guy with one year of eligibility left. I was hoping for Simmons to start Lagways freshman year but oh well. I’ve accepted that we will have to wait till Lagways sophomore year to have a decent qb if Mertz or Miller don’t surprise us
Agree and disagree. '25 and '26 will definitely have expectations.....but judgements are real time regardless of when they should take place. Some of posters on this board have already made theirs.
It will most likely have to be a guy that has 1 to 2 years of eligibility left...but the timing isn't the best because that theoretical QB would be starting at UF the same year as Lagway comes in as a FR. This is all conjecture if Mertz becomes the QB everyone thought he was in HS, because that would provide the perfect transition to Lagway's SO season.
People thinking 8 wins or fire the coach the next two seasons are delusional. Sure, we could win 8-10 games this year but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
I just don’t think many with two years left want to come to a situation where Lagway takes their job in their final year of eligibility.
I agree with you both. There are clearly already some on our boards who have made their decision and others who made it when the hiring was announced. However, the opinions that really count, in the building and the UAA and the bull gators, are heavily leaning towards what @Wanne15 said though . . . so you're both right.
Those ol boomer bullgators probably have better judgement and patience. They didn’t get where they are in life from dumb decisions.
The UAA has shown itself to be fickle in the past and haven't shown a lot of patience with Football coaches since the 1970's (when they showed way too much). The Bull gators are no different than average fans and can get frustrated with subpar results just as easily. I hope this time next year Napier's future won't even be a topic of discussion, because opinions can change...even ones that do count.
It seems tge last three coaches gave them no other options. It’s hard to say they should have been more patient.
Every time I read this I want to gouge my eyes out. Total disregard for HUGE contributions from BN players on offense that would not be at UF with Mullen. I think (and it's impossible to prove) we lose 3 more games without the likes of Montrell Johnson, Etienne, Pearsall, Torrence, etc. Can anyone seriously argue we are as successful running the football with Wright as RB1? But sure, with Mullen calling plays AR would have been able to hit open receivers because of reasons.
I'm talking more about the questionable in-game decisions, really, but the point is moot. Billy Napier is our coach. I hope we see some improvement this season.
Completely valid, I too have questions. Specifically in regards to the worst end of half clock management I've ever seen. It's just a revisionist statement that gets frustrating to me because you have to take the good with the bad. Mullen better XO's & worse talent, BN worse XO's & better talent.
23 & 24 won’t? I don’t believe most are going to just write them off, especially 24. If UF loses that opening game of the 2024 season, this site will need to upgrade their servers, imho. It will get ugggly. Not being able to bring in a top flight HS QB in the first 2 cycles has put Billy in a bad spot, imho. Not having that QB to build upon has likely pushed back the growth schedule. Now it’s Mertz or bust, and bust would be a sizable setback for this staff. I just hope like heck that doesn’t happen.
It’s likely to happen that way, and I am prepared to wait for Langway in 25. By that time we should have a solid team ready for him
Dont think it really changes the point, but Hooker was there two years, think they kinda started to get some momentum heading into 22 once they stuck with him later in the 21 season
I hope the powers that be fully understand the swamp that the foundations of the program were built on when BN took over. Whether BN succeeds or fails I truly believe the program as a whole will be in a MUCH better situation for the next guy whenever that may be, 3-4 years or decades.
They would have gotten more time had they not shit the bed. They all started off with some form of success and couldn’t sustain. They haven’t proven themselves afterwards either. They weren’t built to be bigtime coaches.
Billy Napier is The Man. One day in the future, we are going to have to fight off Alabama for his staying here. When Saban is gone, they will come after Napier. And Napier isn't going anywhere. He is staying right here in North Central Florida at UF. And, we are going to win a National Title, if not more.
