rather be around an old fart than a young fart when you truly think about the implications. Just sayin
It was raining yesterday, AGAIN, in Northwest Florida. So I had nothing better to do but turn on the tube where I happened to come across the 2008 Fl - Ga game. This was the game the year after the Georgia players had their infamous touchdown celebration. The game opened up with Spikes hammering Knowshon Moreno on the second play of the game. Back then, our linebackers looked like linebackers. Not safeties who put some weight on. I'm hoping our current commitments, as well last year's crop, bring our defense back to the level of play of those former teams. We are starting to get the types of players again. Coach those guys up and let them loose. I'm willing to be patient and take some lumps if in the end, the overall product is better.
Not that it really matters, but for the first time in many moons I went to ESPN NCAA Sports and there was actually something written about the Gators landing the #2 ILB recruit in Chiles and our big recruiting weekend! How kind of them... Go Gators.
There is a lot of truth to closing the deal and a sales pitch needing the closer, etc…but this is how it SHOULD be done. Might not be the most effective or always work…but in a perfect world, this is what you would want.
Zook was a first-time head coach. CBN at least had a successful track record at a lower level. That should give him time.
He could have committed but, the train left the station. Too many kids and their parents think only they have the power to play games with the program. Nope. Kids in the 100 range do not and once the offer is made, they could be shut out if they hesitate. Ditto for the Simmons kid and his parents.
Reminds me of Shark Tank sometimes. People with multiple offers trying to get the most lucrative deal and end up with the least favorable or no deal at all.
I think this is where Jones wants to be and we would take him …but there needs to be some maneuvering that has to take place for that to happen. A take today? No. A take in a month or 2? Maybe. He probably needs to settle somewhere else.
