I get it that where the number cut off is pretty arbitrary, as was my decision to leave out IMG players from the top-25 247 ranking (most are from out of State, but not all). However what it demonstrates is that the top of the top is being dominated by Out of State schools and that needs to change if we really want to compete.
This! It’s the #1 issue now, imho. The upper echelon out of state football factories are coming in and cherry picking almost all of the top talent in the state, sadly. Another year or two of mediocre results won’t change that either. That’s the conundrum
I see a ton of sellout games in Gainesville in the 2024 football season. I like this schedule. I also liked the all SEC schedule we played in 2020. The more SEC games we play the more I like it... every game counts, and every game should sellout.
Are you saying 7+ for 2023 or 2024? If 7 is the bar for 2024 then I think we're underachieving in year 3.
You’re Exactly Right! In 2 years schedule of more teams the Gators will be playing, we don’t at least get a game against our oldest, traditional Rival. But it doesn’t seem to bother others as it does me. But there are probably some others, who don’t know who that is.
In the context of the post by @Gatorhead . . . and just thinking out loud . . . I think we get to 7+ wins this year (2023). I believe this team will gel and be much more complete and win at least a couple of those last year's team lost. It's way too early to make predictions either way about 2024.
There is only one thing I like about not renewing the AU-UF rivalry and that is UF won't get royally screwed over by the hick refs in Auburn like we have on virtually every visit up there.
I’ve e always been for having all real games. If they want tv money, put a product on the field worth watching. There’s nothing wrong with having 5-6 sec games every week that are worthy of being the game of the week. That’s one reason the nfl requires all teams to spend the entire cap, no Vandy’s allowed on the field.
WHEW! I can see 6-6 or 7-5 and maybe if the QB works out 8-4 this season (not including potential bowl). Maybe we go the opposite direction of last year and start slow and then get progressively better as the season goes on. Week over week improvement is really what I'd love to see.
People seem surprisingly resigned to a low victory count next year. I expect two more rough years in front of us with the schedules that are coming our way, then, a strong and sustained turnaround with Napier. Playing slightly above our level and pulling out some wins that weren't expected over those two years could keep the mob off Napier's back. Watch out for UCF in early 2024. Losing that could start a rogue wave just as the ship is almost righted.
Well, the last several years now, SEC Officials were not doing the same games all the time. And now that games will have very different schedules, 2 new SEC teams, and probably more SEC Officials, I think there will be big differences we’ll see. If I have time I can post an away game, long time ago now, that it was obvious how unsafe it could be. So me with my brother and his wife, decided we were going to leave, even before Kickoff.
