You forgot to add in FSU. I think with that, we do have the tougher schedule. They only have one real test out of conference in Clemson. Our out of conference isn't quite as good as that one game, but there are 3 of them that are way better than the rest of UGAG's out of conference schedule.
It will be interesting to see if Norvell can keep FSU at a high level in 2024. Almost every poster on here seems to claim he's a lousy coach. But he's recruiting well and has a good handle on the portal. Travis is a junior now and will likely be gone be in 2024, right?
We already have been for several. BIG difference between recruiting today and last year . . . and recruiting the 3-years prior. That's when we were competing more with directional schools. Look at the OVs for the top kids Florida is after.
Please define “pile-up.” I expect us to go 7-5 this year but can easily go 6-6. Now if Napier goes 3-9 or 4-8 then I agree the pressure on him for 2024 will be astronomical. Stricklin will not be able to hold off the BullGators. It will be similar to what happened with Mullen in Columbia two years ago. Stricklin and a bunch of BullGators were there ready to breathe down Mullen’s neck. When he became standoffish he signed his own sentence. Two weeks later he was gone.
Those posters are idiots or homers. I wanted Norvell over Mullen, and I think now it should be obvious why. FSU has taken clear steps forward every year under him. Mullen didn't put his foot on their throat with recruiting while they were down, and now they are starting to pick that up. I think Napier may work out even better for us than Norvell has for the Noles, but they are going to keep improving.
But will the fan base tolerate another 6-6 season? What happens if attendance declines at the stadium? Why is everyone else having quick turn around while we seem to be swimming in circles?
I won't miss them, I remember the USCe fan who guaranteed victory last year then suddenly vanished, wonder where he went.....
Pretty sure he was a Junior last year and was wondering on this board why he didn't go pro (kinda wishing he did). But he's back for his Senior year and they are going to push Heisman talk for him. Not sure if his covid year has already been included. Maybe the pro's don't fit his body type, he's not overly tall but is athletic and accurate enough.
Without his legs, I don’t think he amounts to much. He doesn’t have the huge arm either so the upside ceiling doesn’t appear to be very high. He can play qb quit well though which is often overlooked by the experts when it comes to evaluation.
I really wish the OV's = signees because for UF the cream of the cream has been visiting UF in the last decade, but the general result has been that they've signed elsewhere. Currently our first 2 of 3 big June recruiting events have yielded zero signees which is a little concerning about UF's trajectory.
I think it comes down to cash. If we aren’t paying what A&M is paying, we aren’t getting that kind of class.
Zilla - tolerate 6 - 6? Attendance decline? I can only speak for myself: I'm a yes on anything from 4 Ws and up. Attendance drop? Could happen, don't see this as a big driver over 1 season, fans will show up, maybe not sell outs but they will come. Everyone / quick turnarounds - UT 2 year turnaround. FSU 3 year turnaround Napier has only coached 1 season on the field. I think your a wee bit early to the lynching party. My take - I don't expect much W - L wise in 23. I do expect a kick ass recruiting class, I put more weight on recruiting this cycle than record. W - L expectations: gotta win at least 7+ in 24. Gotta challenge for SEC East and make noise for the SEC championship in 25. All while recruiting at an elite level.
I kinda' agree . . . we've had some elite players visiting for the last few years and didn't sign but we weren't really ever in the game for them. Now Coach Napier and staff are getting some of the best of the best on campus the last two cycles, landed a few and are still in the thick of things for quite a few more.
I agree except for the fact there will not be an SEC East in 2025. They just changed all that recently . . . but we know what you meant. Also we have a killer schedule in 2024 so that has to be taken into account somewhat. Still should get to 7+.
The last two cycles we signed 4 top 50 FL players (after removing the IMG players which should not count) according to 24/7. Out of State programs have signed 31. This is a trend that must be reversed if UF wants to be competitive in our conference again. I hate to say it, but outside of a truly transcendental coach, I believe the equation is simple....keep FL talent at home and we'll compete for championships. Sadly, I think we've seen the answer to what happens if we don't keep that talent at home the last decade.
I don’t think it’s fair to remove the IMG players, just to kind of make it appear better, don’t really have to, imho. I count UF as having signed 10 of the top 65 in the last class. That’s not bad, what they must start doing pronto is signing more of the top-shelf guys in the top 10-12. Yep, many of them are IMG guys, a nut that needs to cracked by this staff. https://247sports.com/Season/2023-Football/RecruitRankings/?InstitutionGroup=highschool&State=FL
