Florida last month implored the College Board to consider modifying Advanced Placement courses with lessons that might run afoul of new state rules banning classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity.

The College Board on Thursday said no.

The organization, in a letter sent to AP teachers, said it was “heartbroken” by the possibility that Florida students might not be able to take AP psychology, which includes a unit on gender and sexual orientation. The course is popular in Florida’s public high schools, with more than 27,000 students enrolled during the 2022-23 school year.

“We have learned from our mistakes in the recent rollout of AP African American studies and know that we must be clear the outset where we stand,” the College Board letter said. “We will not modify our courses to accommodate restrictions on teaching essential, college-level topics. Doing so would break the fundament promise of AP.”

According to the article these subjects have been a part of AP Psych for 30 years and they will not be changing it. Can't say I blame them

Sounds great. But the real issue is controlling the libbies who potentially teach these courses the wrong way.

The AP courses literally tell you what to teach because there's a standardized test covering what is taught. Perhaps you have some evidence of poor performance on AP exams because rogue teachers are teaching something not in the course material to the detriment of students? My guess is you are pulling stuff out of your ass as usual!

So you can guarantee that liberal leaning teachers won’t deviate on subject matter during class time to brainwash students?
    You cannot. Thanks.

I can, because "brainwashing" isn't an actual thing, and even if it were, one teacher is just one message among hundreds a kid is bombarded with every day.

    Psychology teachers are libs.

    Libz = Own3d

I’m pretty sure brainwashing is a thing, and whoever you are “debating” this with has probably got it bad.

It will be interesting to see DeSantis’ reaction. Previously, they characterized the state’s position as setting standards for students in the State of Florida. Presuming that was indeed their motivation, they should simply accept this as the College Board deciding not to follow Florida standards and move on. DeSantis has said that they have their own standards, likely some Hillsdale agitprop.

But I will be surprised if he leaves it at that, because he is trying to sell the Republican base on his ability to bend and break the “establishment” to his will, to impose their worldview as "official". And in this case, the College Board is somehow “liberal”, so he runs a real risk with the base if he doesn’t “break” the Board. Of course, they're not actually defying him; they are just electing not to change for Florida. But the Base demands submission or destruction. So we’ll see

I can understand this because the college board is a national organization. They administer the SAT as well.
Given that, the AP classes a florida student takes would have to be inline with the same class in another state so the AP credit would apply in an out of state college should they decide to go there.

I saw the term the other day. I believe it was insufferable that was used.

Though, I think comical or caricature is more accurate. The feinging of outrage is amusing also.

We are all waiting with baited breath on the rating to see how much care isn't given.

Off topic? Could be a dislike. The fragility shows in that. Ehh, it's a tossup and I'm giddy!

As for the topic at hand, good for them for standing their ground and not bending to the extreme, but we will probably see the pettiness of the governor come out at some point.

Its a sad way to go through life. Don’t think at your age there is any hope though. Maybe life as a goat herder in Ecuador could turn things around? Mountain air will clear your head? Not sure they’d have you though.

Because your mentality of thinking teachers are deviating from the prescribed orthodoxy and 'brainwashing' kids is just creepy. Like something out of a totalitarian society.

What’s the “right way” to teach the class and what evidence do you have that it’s not being taught that way?
