India is starting to make its neighbors nervous. Some in Parliament are thinking about expanding the country, and merging with Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. They put up a map of the new country (which is the same as an ancient version of India), which they call "Akhand Bahrat", in Parliament.

I got news for India. Pakistan doesn't like you, Afghanistan doesn't like anyone, and Nepal, Myanmar and Bangladesh, well let's just say they have different problems than you do, and they don't need your problems on top of their own.

Why a map in India’s new Parliament is making its neighbors nervous

If Russia and China can make claims on neighbors based on ancient memories, why can't India be just as foolish? Wait until Macedonia hears about this--they're gonna think they hit the jackpot.

Given the horribleness of Pakistan and Afghanistan rule by India would be an improvement. However there would be a war which would likely involve nukes which would be a disaster.

LOL - India does not even have the gumption to reclaim lost territory to Pakistan in Kashmir (despite having won multiple wars against them) and to China in Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh, the eastern most state of India (after losing a war to them). Just look at how western maps portray the border of India in these places as disputed territories. I don’t see India starting a war with anyone soon.

Zero chance of this happening from a territorial and political unification perspective. These are a people conquered and separated by religion and western (British) geographically drawn lines in the name of stabilization.

Great idea. Another idea: let the Jedis command the Storm Troopers. Think about how that can't possibly go wrong!

Even if a nuclear war were confined to India and Pakistan, the consequences would be global. Zero stars, would not reccomend.

I mentioned before that the effects of the Partition are especially worth studying and largely unknown to most of us who grew up educated in the West. I read the book Midnight's Furies. There are plenty of others. But the Partition is a very significant and impactful, relatively recent historical episode of which most of the world does not have much understanding.

BTW, historical maps of more glorious times are fairly common. Hafez Al-Assad used to take all American diplomats to his map showing the Islamic world at it's maximum in the 1200s-1400s, reminding them of sic transit gloria mundi, i.e., times change, and may again.

Almost all "nations", in the classic sense, here the Hindus, although there is probably a more precise terms, have memories of times in the past where they were the oppressed, which gives cause for modern grievance and oppressive conduct in the name of "defense", and times where they were the regional hegemon, which in the mind of that nation constitutes the "natural order" of that area that should be returned to, all else being a temporary and unfortunate aberration.

That's what this sounds like. Could be wrong, obviously.

The Partition is one of the most heinous crimes against humanity and possibly the worst act of the Colonial rule (not excusing the role of Gandhi, Nehru and Jinnah here). It’s the largest forced human migration in history and it’s a pity it doesn’t get any discussion in the Western world.

There was a joke circulating that India finally got its revenge on the British when Rishi Sunak became their PM!

I ha not heard that one, but that is funny. Kind of like saying their help with Trump was revenge for Yeltsin - in their view, the agent of decline

More true for India-Pakistan! Most Indians have moved on from England and don’t consider them a rival in anything. But Pakistan is a whole another ball game (pun unintended). The countries come to an absolute standstill when they play each other. In fact, when India played Pakistan in the 1999 cricket World Cup, the Kargil war was going on between the countries and there was a ceasefire during the match as the soldiers wanted to watch the game! India won both that match and the war. But makes one wonder that even though is so much common between the two countries, why the hate? If we (having been born in India) can forgive the British, why can’t we get along with our own brothers from across the border?

I'm sure you know this, but for others that may not appreciate the "relationship", the border guard routine is something else

    OT…
    1) why did clones have excellent marksmanship, but storm troopers were trained to shoot like bantha fodder?
    2) why are you not headless?
