both Trump and his son Hunter on any and all charges. Trump's pardon was contingent on him not running for any federal or state office ever again, nor actively endorsing or supporting any candidates moving forward.

Would it heal the nation moving forward?

Senator Ted Kennedy was originally opposed to Ford's pardon of Nixon, which Ford stated would let the country start healing from the wounds of Watergate. Later, Kennedy changed his mind and said that Ford did the right thing.

Would you support such a deal?

Well neither has been convicted of anything yet, so there’s that.
But no, a president shouldn’t pardon his son, and a country that talks about law and order as much as this one does should be able to handle a trump conviction if it comes.

Well, Nixon wasn't convicted of anything either.

I think Biden pardoning his son would look pretty bad.

I could understand him pardoning Trump, although I’d disagree with it given the blatant nature of some of the crimes. I think a deal for a pardon for not running would come off as political manipulation.

I could see Biden suspending the sentence of any conviction in order to avoid the negative optics of an ex president in prison.

I'd be furious. Nobody should be above the law. That includes Trump and Hunter Biden (if he has committed crimes).

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I can see your point on the pardon of Hunter so I tried to balance it with Trump's pardon in my hypothetical. If Trump doesn't want the pardon then he could turn it down, but then he faces the outcome of the trials.

If there were a way to get Trump out of the race, and that involved a Trump pardon I wouldn’t necessarily oppose it. But it would have to be done in a way that it didn’t look like Biden extorting Trump from running by holding a pardon over his head.

Bad optics on Biden pardoning Hunter. Not in favor of pardoning Trump if he is convicted. While I understand the rationale for the Nixon pardon, the downside is it has emboldened the likes of Trump and is gop enablers (Nixon would not have resigned if fox had been around in 1974). The idea that no one is above the law is also important.
Obviously we have to wait and see where all of these matters end up re: any trials coming up.

I’d be ok with pardoning Trump after he pleads or is convicted.

definitely not ok with pardoning Hunter. Can’t imagine Biden would consider it for a moment.

I would pardon trump after an admission that trump had done wrong and an iron clad guarantee he was done with running. Hunter I think he has to let it run its course but maybe a heading out the door pardon?

I want Trump to win the Rep. Nomination, and I don't care if Hunter goes to jail or not. I think it would be really bad if Biden pro-actively pardoned his son. If that's something he's going to do, he should do it on his last day in office. Pardoning Hunter would certainly fuel the right-wing idiocy that Biden must have been "involved", too, so he pardoned Hunter to take the heat off himself.

Accepting a pardon imputes an admission of guilt, so there would be that piece for Trump.

Not a fan of pardoning either, particularly pardoning your own son. Bad look. Really bad.

Biden should publicly state his intent to pardon Trump with no contingencies. Trump will pass from this Earth eventually, and he should not be a martyred. He should be marginalized to a simple footnote to history with a warning.

    No pardon for Hunter.

Is the idea here that Pardoning Trump would give Biden cover from his harshest critics to pardon his own son? Because I guarantee it wouldn't play out that way. It would be "Biden pardoned the completely innocent and God-like infallible Trump to save himself the embarrassment of his woke DOJ communist attack dogs getting body slammed in court ... and then pardoned his criminal mastermind son so he wouldn't flip against him and expose the $7 Trillion bribe they took from North Korea to let Transgender Groomer Muslim terrorists cross the completely open Mexican border" -- Did I miss anything?

What does Hunter has to with Trump? He’s facing tax charges and a minor gun charge. If he’s guilty lock him up think he might face a couple of years.

If Trump is pardoned it will be the greatest miscarriage of Justice in US history and will hasten my departure from this shithole country

Yep. No pardon for Hunter as it sets a horrible precedent and I would not support a pardon or banning trump from running for president. If the American people are stupid enough to elect him, they should have that right and it would send the message that prosecuting trump was all about defeating him at the polls.

Lock them both up if they're guilty. Then lock up everyone else in politics that has committed a crime. That would probably be most of them!

I get the question, but that is not what would bring about healing. If the media is not a central party involved in the healing process, then it doesn't matter. There is no healing for the country if the media remains as corrupt as it is today.
