From Jeff Asher, who collects crime data for a living: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/06/us-murder-rate-decline-crime-statistics/674290/
Its hard to get away with anything these days. Everyone has a ring camera. You can almost guarantee most crimes or the lead up and activities afterwards will be on someone's camera, somewhere.
My theory when we saw these ‘21 spikes was that it was similar to inflation, a different sort of “pent up demand”, but a similar phenomenon having to do with the suppression of murders during the pandemic. There had to be a “bounce back” before transitoning back to longer term trends. Call it a transitory murder rate.
I have always made this point, too, but the murder clearance rate has reportedly been getting worse. Seems very counter-intuitive to me and not sure what to make of it if true. This is from last year. https://www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/archive/2022/07/police-murder-clearance-rate/661500/
9mm got all the way up to .71 cents a round. Right now the cheapest stuff you can find is around 20-25 cents a round. 9mm Ammo Price History
Yes, if it was reversed then O&B and gang would be jizzing all over this thread about senile/evil genius Biden and the big bad libbies!
Yes thank you Biden but I would thank Trump too if he was the current president and tha stat was the same. Some things should over-rule party ideology and this is one of them.
I'm not sure if the reporting is better for 2022 than 2021, but roughly 7000 police agencies covering about 35% of the population didnt report anything that year. The Problem With The FBI’s Missing Crime Data
1. The connection between inflation of bullets prices and murder in this thread is laughable at best and yet several have seemingly taken it seriously. 2. I’m extremely happy to see the murder rate go down. Especially considering how many guns have been purchased over the last five years. Given how dangerous/murderous guns are I’d have thought the murder rate was skyrocketing 3. We are told repeatedly how poorly the data on murder is reported by most police departments. If the order rate has gone down.. that is awesome. If this is stat twisting pie in the sky hoping for the best then I’m not sure anyone needs to celebrate.
Over the last five years, it has increased, even with this decrease. And, as pointed out in the article, mass shootings are up. And murder is not poorly reported. Other crimes are. But murders have actual bodies.
That is just not true. Most of my Republican friends conceal carry, as I do. Speaking for just myself, I have never witnessed any gun violence while I am conceal carrying, so I assume the bad guys are just afraid of me and my 9mm.
