Once the clock hit 12:01 Noon EST on Jan 20, 2021, Trump was no longer President. By law, all Trump Presidential Records belonged to the National Archives. It's why the Feds could legally subpoena all records and any a warrant for all records could be issued. While there is no punishment for breaking the PRA, there are for obstruction. Trump cooperates with the Feds, no obstruction charges. The Espionage Act also does not state anything about classification status. It simply states someone illegally holding US State secrets that could be potentially damaging to national security may be charged under the Espionage Act. Trump was illegally holding these records, including some nuclear secrets and military vulnerability secrets. Have you read the indictment? It's all there. Trump has no legal claim to his Presidental Records, and he broke laws that are punishable by hiding and lying about having the records. And broke bigger laws by the fact the records be illegal had were potentially harmful to national security.
Not at all what I said; but, response is understandable due to TDS. Nice straw man - swing and a miss. I challenged the assertion that it was dangerous to criticize the DOJ, giving an example of how the same DOJ had used specious intel to harass a candidate then a President for five years. I didn't say "give Trump a pass" or "Trump is innocent" did I? When intelligent folks cannot read a simple sentence and respond to what was written there is no point in engaging - it's all just twisted words and and party rhetoric.
Berger pleads guilty to taking classified info (nbcnews.com) Sandy Berger, who was President Clinton’s top national security aide, pleaded guilty Friday to taking classified documents from the National Archives and cutting them up with scissors. “Guilty, your honor,” Berger responded when asked how he pleaded. The charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of a year in prison and up to a $100,000 fine. However, under a plea agreement that Robinson must accept, Berger would serve no jail time but instead pay a $10,000 fine, surrender his security clearance for three years and cooperate with investigators. Security clearance allows access to classified government materials.
It wasn't Covid that ran up the deficit on his term. It was his massive tax cut for the rich and corporations that did it. I'm sure you would be fine with NATO being gone so the GQP hero Putin could reconstitute the Soviet Union but decent Americans believe in backing up our democratic allies. No one is saying that the south is evil but there aren't "good people on both sides" of the racism issue.
I will give you the part about the judiciary. However, the rest is nonsense. His idea of law & order is taking billy clubs to the heads of any groups of 2 or more minorities while white collar criminals get a free pass on everything. Other than separating families, Trump built all of 500 feet of border wall so that part was mostly just harsh rhetoric. Biden has done 100X what Trump did for manufacturing in this country. The fact is you got suckered by his BS over any actual accomplishments of his which were minimal.
Trump shoots man on 5th Avenue and supporters call the charges “political weaponizing of the government” and complain Hillary got a free pass for killing Seth Rich. Donald Trump was right. He can do anything without losing his support.
This case is like Trump shoots a man in the middle 5th ave, hauls out of there and buries this man on his property, lies to authorities when questioned, police want to search for the missing body (and notifies well in advance of their intent to search), so in response to this notification Trump exhumes the body and has it travel with him to prevent police from discovering it. Except security footage catches him carting a dead body around. Then at the end of all these shenanigans, wants to claim it was all a setup.
Forgive me, but I'm missing your point. Are you saying, without having heard the evidence, that this indictment is factually baseless and nothing more than another unjustifiable political attack on Trump? If that is your position, it is irrational and hyperpartisan and, therefore, dangerous to our system of justice.
You definitely have a point. The cover the DOJ has right now is that "Trump didn't give back the documents and was uncooperative." If a deal returning the documents is not even on the table, you know there's some vindictiveness here. It's not just "we need the documents back." It's "Trump is a threat to the Republic (a line they've been saying for seven years) and needs to spend the rest of his life in federal prison." Why does this feel politicized guys? Assuming the indictment is accurate, I think Trump's only hope is having ride or die members on the jury who simply won't convict him no matter what. That or a Republican wins the election and pardons him when they take the Oval Office, which I would bet money on if a Republican wins.
Largely up to DT as he will do anything and everything to delay. His favorite judge can also delay proceedings if she decides to. It will likely be thru the original case well before the election but not the appeals is my understanding but there are many here much more qualified to discuss this than me.
Yep, the DOJ is in a race against the clock right now. Trump's escape hatch is delaying this until after the election and winning the election. Both of which are more possible than I ever could've imagined. But if he's campaigning from a jail cell, that may not hinder his chances in the Republican Primary, but it surely will in the General.
