Agave you ever been involved in sports? Individual competitive sports are typically divided by gender, as are the formal competitions. That doesn’t mean you don’t train with other gender, and maybe informally compete with the other gender. As to team sports most competitions are gender based but more informal and some casual leagues may be co-Ed. So this straw man of being “afraid” to compete with men is bullshit. It is a matter of fairness at the competitive level.
"Wrestling in the 53kg, 55kg, and 57kg weight classes, Maroulis went on to become a six-time U.S. Open champion and four-time WCWA women’s college national champion." Impressive either way of course, but I was wondering how many boys would have been in her weight class in high school and what he weight was then. The above weights appear to be for her college and U.S. Open era weight classes (range of 116-125 pounds)? I'm reading that boys' weight classes in high school start as low as 106 pounds and 101 pounds for the girls. Not sure what I expected either way.
Twice now, you've made it clear that you don't know why I brought up Renee Richards. Read my post again. Read why I quoted wgbg. And then read what Tilly said that started the particular conversation.
And if you allowed boys to compete with the girls in wrestling…they would never win a Championship. You basically proved the point. An elite female athlete in a niche male dominated sport was able to medal not win in a small state. There is a reason they won the FEMALE GOLD MEDAL and not a MALE GOLD MEDAL at the Olympics! I really hope you are not defending Males competing against Females in Female sports.
We are talking in circles. Your point was this is not new, re RR. But ironically, RR happens to disagree with the overall broader point that you and others seem to hold that trans individuals should be free to participate in that gender. It doesn’t negate your immediate point, but it weakens the broader argument.
Except it doesn't. You're arguing against a straw man of your own making. Richards didn't argue that transgender women should never be able to participate under any circumstances.
That’s the way it is now but in my day girls didn't have school sports except for cheerleading, and that wasn’t considered a sport. Women weren’t allowed to compete in an Olympic marathon either. Look how far we’ve come but only because women fought for it fighting against men who said they couldn’t. The vast majority of women aren’t afraid to compete against cis men let alone trans that have had the testosterone drained from their bodies because it’s a non issue. So the question is why is it so important to you?
allowing trans to compete isn’t without victims - women/girls will have to sacrifice their spots or who would otherwise win, to someone that starts with an unfair advantage. This is confirmed as there are valid reasons why there are men’s and woman’s leagues and separate events of the same sport. And why track and field, swimming, etc maintain separate performance metrics for men/women. Imo we are being presumptuous deciding this is fair and yes women/girls you will provide the sacrifice to make this work.
So if having a physical advantage is the issue for you then why allow athletes over a certain height to play basketball against shorter players? There are a lot of inequalities in sports from physical size, to red blood cell count, lung capacity, and number of fast twitch muscle fibers regardless if it’s a same sex or multi sex competition. That doesn’t include diet, training facilities, or the quality of coaching. If you have an issue with transsexuals in sports saying they’re still men then how are you going to address the inequality of trans with little testosterone competing against men with higher testosterone levels? I have no problem with it, and they should have none either. However the problem is if they would allow a trans woman to compete in a men’s competition. The problem many are having isn’t about fairness, it’s about being prejudiced against transgender women. It’s about not allowing them to compete at all which is backward as Hell.
We are now at 11 pages. Meanwhile Citizens Insurance will be raising rates by double digits and Farmers Insurance is pulling out of Florida
The state had two special sessions a couple of years ago I believe to fix the problem, but in true republican form the bills DeSantis signed protected the insurer at the expense of the insured. Regarding Farmers I think they’re staying in Florida but they’re not writing new policies.
So what you are actual saying is that Judge Alfred Ascione is an idiot…because that is what I am taking away from that. I don’t care if a dude wants to dress up as a woman. I don’t care if a dude wants to cut off his pecker. You be you. But I won’t ignore science. If he has XY chromosomes he is a dude. In writing this post I identify as a Supreme Court Justice and this is my ruling. I am the law!
nope.. Simply the difference of male vs female physiological innate capabilities in athletics. A difference in abilities that requires they compete separately to be fair (and safe in some sports).
I don't agree with this. I think biology overlaps with gender. And if you define gender to be a purely a cultural phenomenon, I don't think that's very informative either, since the line where biology ends and culture begins is fuzzy, to say the least.
