I'll bet the Oklahoma fans are beside themselves. Can you imagine the unhappiness on this board if Skylar left. Pretty much guarantees a Big Ten softball title for Nebraska next year.
True about OU fans not happy. True about Nebraska in the weak Big 10. Almost irrelevant to OU marching on. They will just get someone else, possibly not as good, but good enough. If the comment about Canady transferring to them is true, then that would do it. Of course, since Canady isn't in the portal, any contact OU has had with her would be illegal. Not that it matters to OU.
I appreciate Lauren Haeger. She doesn't seem like she really a fan the way some players are using the portal. Mostly positive responses from what I am seeing with Jordy. Random side note: Apparently, Jordy will get called for illegal pitches now she's isn't at OU anymore... I hope Canady stays at Stanford. A championship ring at OU is nice and all but a degree from stanford a top 3 school is much better.
The link that I posted elsewhere that Gator1990 says was a valuation of the players' NIL value and not the actual amount they were getting. Top 5 On3 NIL Valuations heading into 2023 NCAA softball season I posted on this thread before I read his post. However, I would assume they could be getting more than their valuation as well as less. Regardless, the dollar amount I posted here are still valuations and not verified income.
On3 valuation = wild ass guess About as accurate as if you and I created a valuation list. The only people who know how much these athletes get is their accountant, they themselves and the IRS.
Marshall C Autumn Owen has entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer. The 2023 Sun Belt offensive Triple Crown winner, Owen spent two years at Marshall after previously transferring from Gardner-Webb. Her career numbers include 44 home runs & 166 RBIs. Oklahoma C Sophia Nugent has entered the transfer portal. Nugent, formerly the #3 recruit in her class, appeared in 73 total games, starting 18 in 2023. Her career numbers include eight home runs, 28 RBIs, 22 runs scored, & a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
Speaking of the IRS: https://www.si.com/college/2023/06/10/irs-name-image-likeness-collectives-not-tax-exempt
I would not be sad to see nugent come here to catch these incoming pitchers. Only reason she ain't seeing the field at OU is kinzie Hnasen and her 5th year.
Former North Carolina P Lilli Backes is transferring to Georgia. Backes posted a 2.79 ERA with a career-high 39 appearances and 180.2 innings of work in 2023. A Peachtree City, GA native, Backes owns 251 career strikeouts. She has two years of eligibility remaining. Former Iowa OF Nia Carter is transferring to Arkansas. She led the Big Ten with 101 hits in the 2023 season, owns a career .415 batting average, and earned all-region honors twice.
Would be nice to see some movement in our direction. The better players aren't going to last long in the portal.
Sophia Nugent and Sarah Gordon names have popped up. It's now sounding like Sophia will follow Jordy to Nebraska. Sarah I'm not sure about her. No pitchers that I know of. I'm sure it's because we still haven't named a pitching coach yet. I really hope a new coach is named either this week or next week.
I'm sure contacts are being made, but nothing has been made public or leaked out that I've seen. Need to get a pitching coach in place and hire that 3rd assistant as well and so far All Is Silent on the Gainesville Front. I expect some news to break fairly soon because even quality players don't last long in the portal and Walton is leaving the country July 1 with one of our U.S. National teams. I would imagine he wants to get some key cogs in place before then.
Would love to have either one, but I agree with you about Nugent. Too bad to lose Gigante, but expected. Thanks for getting some advance info. and sharing. Right now we have ZERO pitchers on our roster, as the freshmen have yet to enroll. That's scary to me.
Ragin Cajuns IF Stormy Kotzelnick has entered the transfer portal. An all-Sun Belt honoree in 2022, Kotzelnick batted .323 during her two years in Lafayette. She notched 16 home runs, 79 RBIs, 19 doubles, and 68 runs scored.
