Gallup poll on transgenders in sports

The only folks that don’t think so either don’t have children or are really bad at sports.

Interestingly, if that polling is accurate, Democrats have become a little more morally accepting over the last two years of changing one's gender identity - yet they have become less accepting of trans athletes competing on teams that don't match their birth gender. For Republicans, there was an 8% increase of those saying changing one's gender is immoral, and the opposition to the sports question increased by about the same percentage.

Part of what I take from that is Democrats have become slightly more accepting of trans issues generally but have had second thoughts about the fairness issues in sports. Those numbers moved in the opposite direction, showing maybe that Democrats separate the morality question from the fairness question. More Republicans, on the other hand, seem to have decided that they think the entire concept of gender change is morally wrong.

 

Three things, then I doubt I will post anymore on this because this issue has been beaten to death, especially in proportion to how much it really occurs:

1. The survey itself does not capture the actual debate. To the extent that a transgender athlete seeks to compete, which is exceedingly rare, the issue is whether the governing body’s requirements, which typically require testing for hormonal levels, are sufficient to ensure there is no competitive advantage. None of that is in the survey. It's just straight out someone competing other than birth gender, transition, no hormone testing, etc.
2. As noted, transgender athletes are extremely rare. It may seem like it's happening a lot, because in the rare examples when it does occur, likely under 10 nationwide, each instance gets thousands of words written about it and hours of television coverage. I can't think of any remotely comparable example in American politics where there has been so much invested into addressing public policy possibility that statistically, doesn't happen. I realize it does happen on occasion in college sports, far less in HS sports. But in a country of 400 million people or thereabouts, it "occurs" at a level that almost cannot be measured. Nonetheless I think at last count, over 20 states have passed legislation on it, probably over 100,000 words so far in the New York Times on it, etc. I can't think of a comparable example of something that has that so much attention which happens so rarely, and in which so many people express interest in preserving the integrity of women’s sports to have little interest in any other issue integrity and quality of women's competition.
3. Finally, I'm not sure that the Democratic Party has gotten over it skis on this. Maybe I'm wrong, because I forcibly tried to ignore this issue, but I don't recall any party platform or any substantial party wide effort to promote the ability to compete for transgender athletes, especially without any concern over hormone testing, etc. The only reason this is an issue is there is one national party who injects it into every debate whether it's Ukraine War, space policy, what have you. I'm being a bit hyperbolic, but it certainly seems that they talk about it all the time. The Genital Obsession Party is just that.

Finally, though it's not that big an issue, I would always check myself if I found I was on the same side of an issue as Ron DeSantis. By definition, that would suggest that maybe I’m misguided. And someone's going to get killed from all this attention, presuming it hasn't happened already. There's just too much hate being whipped up

Personally I think polls are for suckers.....No way 30% of the people I know think transgenders should be allowed to compete with women. I can't think of anybody I know that has said that, not even my snowflake daughter in law, although she probably does feel it is OK.

 

I am an ardent supporter of LGBT rights.
However, I do not support Trans Women playing in Women's sports.
This is due to the inherent advantages an XY person has over an XX person.

 

Although five years ago this also happens when the birth gender rule is enforced.

Did anyone make her wrestle? No. She chose a sport where she would have a severe disadvantage. No one is fighting her right to be a her… but that personal choice does mean she gets to put everyone else at a disadvantage.

 

Actually the wrestler in question was born a her and was transitioning to become a him and ending up beating a female wrestler.

This does seem to be the rarer occurrence… female to male playing female sports.
My premise remains. He is allowed and welcome to make his own choices in life but that doesn’t mean everyone(anyone) else should be put at a disadvantage. Testosterone levels make it an unfair fight

 

That says more about the people you associate with than the accuracy of the polling.

Yeah…the female taking hormones while the competitors do not wins. SMH!

 

Beggs should been allowed to compete against males, it was the state that required "him" to compete against females.
