If anyone has a subscription to the 247 board for OU there's a thread with a ton of activity there. I don't have access otherwise I would share. https://247sports.com/college/oklahoma/board/86/Contents/jordy-bahl-portal-bound--211473993/?page=1
Did a scan of coach Waltons instagram to see who he is following. Which he keeps nice and simple with only 87 of them currently. The 3 announced transfers in Wellen, Roe, and Delbrey are notfollowed. Neither is Olivia Gigante. All other current players appear to be there. Possibly another indicator that her time as a Gator softball player has run its course.
Hate to see people leave but if they don't want to be here then so be it. I didn't like the way Delbrey came across later in the season as far as she seemed to have an attitude anytime being taken out. Just written all over her face. Wish her well but probably best for all sides. Olivia... who knows but concerning that her and Taylor schumaker are close.
I mean considering she has 2 titles already and originally committed there it could happen. Just saw on another board that well connected alumni are confirming it. Her wanting to hit, homesickness, and a bf at nebraska being factors.
I agree. But maybe it's a money thing??? Unfortunately, NIL has turned the college sports world upside down. Fouts was widely reported to have made $146,000 last year in NIL money -- and Jordy Bahl is that caliber of player. Maybe she's transferring to a school better positioned for NIL opportunities. Still, hard to believe.
I don't think Nebraska can match Oklahoma for NIL funding. I saw that Bahl got $62,000 this year and 2 other players got over $40,000 each. They pay 'em well in Norman.
And what happens to team chemistry? Admittedly, Bahl would be a special case. I read somewhere....possibly here somewhere....that Walton divides all NIL money equally between all players. That, along with Bosch as pitching coach, might have something to do with striking out the last two years in the pitching portal.
I know like with Fouts she did stuff for her teammates with her having so much nil. Bahl seems like a good person just annoying to watch at least imo. As far as that being a reason for striking out in the portal.....players more worried about money than their team are a no go to me anyway even though I know that how it is now.
The fact that Montana Fouts got something like $140,000 in NIL money this year definitely could have had an effect on team chemistry at Alabama and could have contributed to so many transferring out last year, although I have read that she did some things for her teammates. Still......
Are the players able to make individual NIL deals on top of what the collective allocates to softball - $100,000 divided among 20 players from what I understand?
Frankly, I have always loved Bahl. She just an absolute competitive dog in the circle. Some trivia....I first saw Jordy pitch the summer after she graduated hs and was playing for Nebraksa Gold in the PGF Championships. She locked up in two games against the Lady Dukes with Keagan pitching both games. Obviously, Keagan was a couple years younger. Keagan beat her first game. Jordy beat her in the championship game. Both very low scoring games. I was enthralled watching Jordy just about destroying the circle....stomping and strutting. Thunderstruck. She also mentioned Keagan after the championship game and I quote, "she is really, really good."
Worthy of note: Bahl was originally committed to Nebraska before flipping to and signing with OU. She's familiar with the Huskers' staff and program. Nope. One of the reasons she backed off Nebraska was because of turmoil in the program and the coach leaving, if I remember correctly. If I'm right, it is a new regime with which she had no previous contact.
I just copied and pasted from Justin McLeod's ExtraInning Softball Twitter feed. https://twitter.com/justfactsmaam?lang=en
This is from the exact same period of time when Bahl decommitted. Correct about turmoil and concerns about the head coach who was suspended. Wrong about her being replaced. Nebraska Reinstates Head Coach Rhonda Revelle After Review
