I spent a couple days there on the way to Martha's Vineyard last fall. Couple places I remember were Tiny's Bar and Mill Tavern were pretty good.
The Eddy is okay. Small but plays good throwbacks (90’s/00’s hip hop) if that’s your thing. Known for having good cocktails and if you are with a girl who is into that, she’ll probably like it. Again it is small though so very limited seating. Try to get a reservation if going.
Summer baseball tournaments have taken us to Providence many times the past few summers. We really enjoy Capriccio. It’s pricey, but very good authentic Italian food.
Little Trivia - The tallest building in Providence (Downtown / 111 Wesminister) is know as the "Superman Building" because of it's resemblance to "The Daily Planet".

Last time we were in Rhode Island, we wandered into an affordable Italian restaurant at the peak of lunch hour. There was no one in there, but being stubborn (and tired) we sat down and ate. Towards the end of the meal, the waitress cleared up why the restaurant was empty--there was a murder there the week before. Apparently, R.I. was/has been a summer retreat for the mafia.
