They tried to get a new stadium for years before they left and the city refused. Had they built the stadium, they would still be there.

If they go ahead with the "renovations" it will take about 2 years to complete so we are probably looking at another home and home with the Poodles similar to 1994 and 1995 when the Cocktail Party could not be played in Jax.

I just spent 3 days in jax and it SUCKED! Downtown area/frmr landing area - there was maybe 2 restaurants/bars open, zero culture, things closed, no live music… Jax has a LONG way to go to improve its culture. Nashville, Austin, Athens, Gainesville, Atl, all come to mind when I think of good combo sports/culture towns.

Agreed, I went for three nights of Panic this past New Years and definitely one of my favorite cities.

I just moved to Jax about a year ago from Atlanta and you're correct, it is definitely lacking compared to other major cities.

But it's getting a little bit better as far as live music ... just not downtown. The Amp in St. Augustine is a great facility and they actually get some decent shows. Daily's Place at the stadium is a nice facility too. They aren't booking a whole lot of shows but we're seeing Tedeschi Trucks there in a couple of weeks which is always a great show. Vystar is a large arena, but they don't seem to book a whole lot of big name shows. Florida Theater is a nice historic facility that get some decent smaller shows now and then. I haven't seen much at all in the way of good local bands yet.

But to your point, no matter what they do or what kind of facility they build, Jax isn't likely to attract major shows based on having nice facilities. Some of the best shows I attended in Atlanta were in dumpy facilities. Bigger shows aren't going to come to Jax until the music culture changes. Most of the major shows don't really come into Florida at all. I've never really understood that.

The food situation in Jax isn't much better. I've found a few good seafood places around town, but pickings are pretty slim outside of the chains.
