Part of me thinks trump was TRYING to get indicted to lock in his nomination. He knows the rubes will circle the wagons because of how brainwashed they are by his victim hood shtick. He’s just banking on skating like he always has.

He'll almost certainly get a plea offer since only 2% of federal indictments wind up going to trial. The question is will he, or should he, get an offer to plead guilty without any jail time?

I'd argue that he shouldn't given that he very clearly has not learned a lesson and is running for President which will once again put national security documents at risk if he wins. If there was some sort of contrition on his part, and reason to believe there won't be a recurrence it would be a different story, but I just don't see that out of Trump.

You can’t just lump all federal indictments with this one. This one is a one of a kind. So all the norms you are citing go out the window. They are not interested in making a plea deal with him that doesn’t destroy him and he’s not going to plea (and I don’t blame him). Their goal is to keep him from becoming President again, so they may make a plea deal they know Trump will never accept, but that’s just as good as no plea deal being offered at all.

You’re just talking out of your ass. Baseless speculation you’re pretending is fact.

They certainly don't have an incentive to give him a sweetheart plea deal if they can prove even half of what's in the indictment, which shouldn't be too much trouble with audio recordings and his own attorney's notes.

The sad thing is that we're even discussing the possibility of Trump being President again given his complete and total disregard for the sensitivity of the information that was entrusted to him.

What jail time? He has Secret Service protection for life. They can't turn that responsibility over to some jail or prison staff.

Any plea deal has to come with an agreement to search all properties for more documents. And an agreement from Trump never to have any security clearance ever again. He did this once. Have to ensure he won't and can't do it again.

This would preclude Trump from ever holding office again. And probably why Trump won't agree to it. But in almost all DOJ Classified docs cases, part of the agreement is the defendant agrees to give up future security clearance. It's Standard Operation Procedure.

Trump agrees to all properties searched and give up future clearance, then the DOJ should accept the deal, even with no jail time. Wouldn't surprise me if the DOJ already offered something similar. But Trump truly believes he's above the law, and has done nothing wrong. He'll never plead guilty. So what choice did the DOJ have but to indict?

I don't think he had a security clearance. As president, he gets automatic access to all classified material by way of Article II.

Let's say there is some hypothetical scenario where Trump gets a pass on the documents by working with the DOJ to ensure that everything missing is now in their possession.

Why should he get a pass on obstruction or making false statements? He has a history of this going back to the Mueller Report and likely before.

Trump has shown that he never learns from crossing the line and getting off unpunished--he doubles down and steps over the next line even further. He is a textbook malignant narcissist that lost the greatest supply of narcissism fuel in this country--the presidency. His narcissism fuel deficit will never let him learn any lessons from his transgressions.

The last thing a Trump defender should be doing is lecturing anyone else about democracy.

A word from trump’s former personal lawyer.
Former Trump AG Bill Barr on Trump's federal indictment: "If even half of it is true, then he's toast. I mean, it's a very detailed indictment, and it's very, very damning. This idea of presenting Trump as a victim here -- a victim of a witch hunt -- is ridiculous."

At this point it appears to me Trump could fornicate with some of your wives and you'd excuse him for it. Good lord some of you have no spine or standards.

Yet, Pence is complaining about unequal treatment. Another intellectual giant.

You don’t, and as I suspect “the Donald” has more documents hidden (if not transacted), I’m sure he would continued to lie even if given a free opportunity to come clean. That was sort of my point.

I think the govt could offer him what anyone else would consider a lucky deal allowing him to totally avoid jail time, I’m sure the govt will offer some sweetheart deal at the very least (probably small stint in country club jail), he will turn it down or instantly breech it. There is no world where this scumbag comes clean.

You think the guy who took a sharpie to a hurricane map in front of the entire country will never admit he was wrong? Hard agree.

I wonder if they would use the same "yeah, well Biden and Pence did it too!" defense.
