"Fiat" when you have ONE man in the WH dictating his "justice" by weaponizing his agencies like the DOJ and the FBI to attack Pubs all across our country... including a former president? What do you think is happening right now?

When the DOJ can show they didn't cooperate with the Feds. Pence wasn't charged after he cooperated. Biden won't be charged either. Hillary was already investigated, and no charges filed because she cooperated too.

    Logic already followed.

You know him and all his aides were high fiving somewhere when the indictments came down. Especially when they got the insane details. Yeah, there’s some crazed true believers like Higgins in Congress and I’m sure the likes of MTG et al. But I suspect the vast majority are pandering for the rubes, and I put Desantis in there. No way they believe that “weaponization of the DOJ” line.

They now get to pander like crazy to the MAGA base on this issue (disgustingly I might add), and at least there is a sliver of hope Trump gets taken off the table. Even if Trump somehow gets a polling boost from this crazy, longer term it’s their only opening and they all know it.

Does anyone think this will influence the GOP primary? If the other candidates stick with the talking points, it neutralizes them and props up Trump,

Squinty McGoGoBoots took a break from his celebration of Trump’s indictment to pretend to support him. He wants his voters so badly.

Your 2024 gop nominee for potus: Donald Trump. If the general electorate is stupid enough to elect him, we deserve all that comes after.

Why would the Presidential Records Act apply to two people who weren’t President when they left government service?

There's just one problem. "Cooperation" doesn't remove or lessen a crime. You rob a bank at gunpoint. It's not like you won't be charged with a crime, because you cooperated with the police investigation. That is, unless you're receiving preferential treatment.

A person can’t argue they “accidentally” did an armed robbery. Although actually if they plead guilty, even those sort of criminals do often get some degree of “preferential treatment” vs. those who do not cooperate.

With white collar crimes or political crimes where showing “intent” is a part of proving the crime, it very well can come down to cooperation. In Trumps case, there was an obvious and very generous window to just return the documents. He chose to double down on the initial crime. Like a bank robber who drops his mask, then goes ahead and robs the bank anyway even though he knows his id is blown. Trump knew he was caught, he chose to actively make things worse for himself. Same behavior he’s done all along really. He apparently must really believe the law does not apply to him.
