As the saying goes, when you stand for nothing, you fall for anything. And much of the Republican Party is still MAGA, and they stand for only Trump. In return, Trump has only stood for one thing, and one thing only, himself. So when Trump falls, MAGA falls with him, and they have no ground left to stand on. I believe that's why we've seen zero defense of Trump's actual actions that are criminal. For example, Trump's refusal to comply with the subpoena and subsequent lying on the affidavit. MAGAs here ignore those facts, and whine about witch hunts and retribution when they back in power. Because again, that's all Trump cares about.
Isn’t that usually up to the judge? She may not want to. Unlike the judge in that Disney-Desantis case, we can’t assume ethics. Actually we can probably assume some inclination toward the opposite.

I understand this position. But it has to be done. Nazi Germany is the blueprint for what happens when you don’t prosecute coup conspirators. Next time, maybe the coup will be run by someone who isn’t a blithering idiot too arrogant to bother being subtle. And while I get the sentiment that indicting a former president will hurt the country, consider how much worse it will hurt the country if we don’t prosecute him. It would render the rule of law and our entire government structure a complete farce. Trump gave his fans permission to be openly racist and bigoted, and now we have actual Nazis in the United States again. Imagine if we give them permission to commit crimes against the nation with no fear of reprisals? Look what lack of consequences for crimes has done to the SCOTUS. Over half the court perjured themselves in their confirmation hearings. The SCOTUS no longer has any legitimacy. What happens if the entire rule of law and our entire government is seen by almost all Americans as completely illegitimate? The speed at which our institutions and our international diplomatic and financial standing would crumble would be astounding. The only people who don’t know he’s a criminal are the 15%-25% or MAGA purists. The rest of republicans who support him just do it because they have married their social identity to a political party. But they absolutely know he’s a career criminal who is guilty of all these crimes. They don’t want him prosecuted, but they won’t suffer for it. Which leaves the only damage to our country if we prosecute: MAGA hurt feelings. Our democracy is worth much more than the hurt feelings of people who want America to be destroyed.
I’m not so sure unless she’s as dumb as a rake. She caught a butt load of pushback from the legal community after her last experience dealing with Trump issues, and I wouldn’t want to put myself through that again. Then again I’m not dumb as a rake either.
Watching Pence take both sides of this is rather awe inspiring. To paraphrase: “After the Russia Hoax, this weaponization of the justice department is a disgrace. Also: No American is above the law, and we should all be patient and wait for the facts in this case. Now let’s all pray for President Trump”. I’m sure all the GOP Presidential candidates have no choice. It’s the hell they’ve created for themselves.

"This morning we tendered our resignations as counsel to President Trump, and we will no longer represent him on either the indicted case or the January 6 investigation," Trusty and Rowley said in a statement Friday. "It has been an honor to have spent the last year defending him, and we know he will be vindicated in his battle against the Biden Administration’s partisan weaponization of the American justice system. "Now that the case has been filed in Miami, this is a logical moment for us to step aside and let others carry the cases through to completion," they added. "We have no plans to hold media appearances that address our withdrawals or any other confidential communications we’ve had with the President or his legal team."

Yes I hate Trump and want him out. But that doesn’t automatically mean he gets a pass just because I hate him. I never gave Hillary a pass for what she did or didn’t do and always thought the evidence should be allowed to play out. In the end there wasn’t enough there to charge her with a crime. It doesn’t mean she didn’t do anything wrong. The thing is you have to be really irresponsible and arrogant to get charged and convicted. Trump has left such a long trail of shit that it has caught up with him. He is literally on tape committing crimes. I have biases but I try to stay objective and I’m pretty clearly not a down the line partisan. You on the other hand think this is a game like college football and you are always going to take one side regardless of how preposterous your position is. Only the most extreme partisan talking heads equate Biden’s document blunders with Trump. So no we don’t need another thread with you posting “but the other side! The other side! The other side! Historically, all Trump lawyers have 3 immediate futures: resign, get fired, or go to jail. Not mutually exclusive. MAGA stands for Make Attorneys Get Attorneys.

Agreed. From 2016 on has been quite revealing. Plenty of right leaning folks bailed on Trump immediately, and some over the coming years. But the lesson I've learned since 2016 is the sunk cost fallacy pertains to people too. I guess we've all seen it with someone sticking it out in an obviously terrible relationship, but I never realized it could happen with a politician/celebrity. It would be one thing for someone to say "Trump's a terrible person, lies, cheats, steals, breaks laws, etc. But look, I hate Democrats, so I will vote Republican no matter what." At least that's justifiable in some respects. But to continue to hold water for Trump is just... unimaginable to me. Truly bizarre.
I will let the legal beagles answer but I suspect no. It’s no secret that his lawyers are undermined every step of the way by Trump and his bevy of political and legal hacks that surround him. At some point they risk their reputations and even their own legal troubles.
The issue in a nutshell. Trump asks for legal advice. “No sir, that is illegal”. What happens? Trump raises a stink or will fire that lawyer until he finds one that says: “yessir, I like money”. What does this fundamentally mean? Trump is not actually looking for legal advice, he’s looking for co-conspirators who will assist him in committing crimes.
