Not exactly a portal transfer but 2023 UCF commit, Caden McDonald P/1B switches to UF Florida Baseball: Gators flip 2023 UCF right-handed pitcher commit
^^^ Really good info there Burke and enjoyed watching the video of him pitching at state. He has the potential to make some good appearances for us next year.
The smart kids understand that the best teams are still playing. It seems like most of the top guys last year waited to see where their best landing spots would be. How the draft plays out and who’s signing is also important to these guys. I don’t remember what the timeline for getting our transfers last year, but seems like they all came in after the draft and cws.
Good points. From what I've read, in 2022 the portal for baseball closed July 1 and the draft was like 2 weeks later. This year the draft is July 9-11 and the portal is open until July 13. There is also an open window in December, but those players have to sit out the following spring. Exceptions to the rule are head coaching changes and alterations to the financial aid the player is receiving. What The New Transfer Windows Mean For Baseball • D1Baseball
The portal dates are just the dates to enter though. They don’t have to find a landing spot before the closing date. They can wait until after the cws, the draft, and even the signing deadline if they want. When did Waldrep, Thomas, and Shiek decide to come here? *Looks like Waldrep committed on July 7th Thomas committed on June 24th Shiek committed on August 4th CWS ended on 6/26, so two of the three waited at least until after that. Signing deadline for mlb was 8/1, so the Shiek even waited until after that. I agree that we need to be talking to some guys, but they know there’s not a huge rush to sign at their new destination. Lots of roster changes are going to happen between now and then. If there’s mutual interest, they can visit after. Maybe they’ll get to hold the new trophy.
Sully originally was hesitant with the portal, but now is fully on board. Given his constant attention to recruiting in general, I'll bet he has paid close attention to anyone who has announce intent to transfer and may have had contacts about future portal entrants.
I think the main issue that article and Sully brought out is that until their season is over, the Gators can't have any players on campus. They can only have phone contact. Meanwhile, school's whose seasons are over can bring players in and try to sell them on their program and get them to possibly sign without Florida ever being able to have them in for a visit. You would think guys in the portal know enough about all the programs to give the Gators due consideration, but there's nothing like having a player on campus to close the deal.
Methinks Sully is fully engaged with the Portal and is quietly sorting through a good number of players who have contacted him. Patience. We have a good: Program School/Education Coaching Facilities Sign me up!
I don't follow the portal other than what yall bring up but if you are hoping that Petry might look into the portal then technically this would be like a visiting weekend for him. Hopefully we give him good reason why he should consider leaving SC and coming back to Florida.
There is an element there of Sully being like Saban before the latter was willing to bring in more aggressive OCs. He kept some assistants he shouldn’t have and wasn’t all-in on the portal. I like where we are now.
Kendall Rogers TRANSFER NEWS: This is a big one. @GoShockersBSB two-way superstar Payton Tolle has entered the portal, @d1baseball has learned. Tolle struck out 97 and walked 19, while also hitting .311 with 13 HRs, 50 RBIs this spring. First Team All-AAC.
True. But since he's from FL and has a brother playing in state - we can dream. Kinda like those dreams I have involving Selma Hyack.
Surprised about Tejada. https://247sports.com/college/flori...er-portal-carsten-finnvold-yoel-te-211491652/
Tejeda hitting the Portal is very surprising. I thought he had the talent to complete for a Sunday slot next year. I suppose he was simply unhappy not getting any work down the stretch when there were multiple opportunities and he was passed over. If you read his HS scouting report he has the potential to be a two-player as well and I saw him hIt some solid line drives during scrimmages in Fall and Spring. Very sorry to see him and Lastres depart.
