Two Republicans admit the bill was a political move to try to scare people from coming to Florida and that it has no teeth. They didn't mean it to scare Florida's workers into leaving.

These idiots are starting to realize there are drastic consequences to this mess they created.

It seems like they are all old enough that they should have been alive and aware when Alabama and Georgia tried this, and cost their states hundreds of millions of dollars.

Talk about placing yourself between a rock and a hard place. I have to laugh a little because the people this law hurts the most are big republican donors like big sugar and cattle ranchers, and also red districts that need the cheap labor. However we’ll see if driving Florida into the ground economically will change voting habits. I doubt it will.

Desantis is a massive joke. It’s going to take years to undo all the damage he has done to the state, yet I still have friends who adamantly support the guy, despite going against all of their best interests. It’s a cult.

I said the same thing in the other thread where this came up. Cost of labor is going to go up, causing prices to rise. Because that's how economics work. And they're gonna cry "BiDeNNNNNNNN"

That's the fun feature of federalism ... Does it suck? Yes? Blame the federal government. Does it not suck? Yes? Its the state government.

Where do you find this trash. That guy is a total jackass. Funny none of the illegals in Gainesville are leaving. Look it's really simple, come in our country legally to work and would love to have you. Those here illegally need to get registered or leave. As U.S citizens were expected to follow laws and so should all of them

Are you claiming those two people addressing the audience were not state legislators? Are you claiming the audio was doctored? You watched some trash, you just misidentified the garbage.

Go to Immokalee about 5am during picking season and watch as hundreds of migrants shuffle down the road to meet the labor buses for a long day of stoop labor in the hot sunshine picking maters, cukes, peppers, and strawberries. Next fall when another picking season rolls around what will happen to those crops - if they even get planted. These folks just want to work - there needs to be a work permit system along the lines of what @AzCatFan has long suggested. The fact that we do not is THE issue.

It’s not that simple. Remember it was Trump who suspended the guest worker program thinking Americans were going to flock to those farm labor, landscaping, and construction labor jobs for undocumented worker wages.

So, you agree with @AzCatFan - that there needs to be a work visa or permit? Such a plan was approved by the Gang of 8 - a bipartisan group of Senators. Why didn't it get passed?

and btw, yes I know that G'ville has plenty of migrants. When I lived there, I had a local company put a roof on my house - not a single member of the crew spoke English. When one of them fell off the roof, breaking both wrists, I was the one that had to call for help.

At current, if an immigrant enters illegally, or overstays a Visa, there is no way to legally sign up to stay. Immigrants who come in to seek asylum, are here legally, and are awaiting their hearing can sign up to work after waiting I think it is 5 months, but I'm not an immigration legal expert, so please, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The Gang of 8 law would have created a line where these immigrants could have signed up for to make them legal. Part of the problem was Rs wanted all of them to go back home and reenter, as they thought it wasn't fair for them to be in the front of the line. However, we have around 8 million undocumented in our work force, and the logistics of having 8 million people return to their home country and attempt to return is ridiculous.

Absolutely, I've never had an issue with anyone working our country if they came in legally. But if they are here illegally they're criminals they need to go or atleast have working permits.
Migrants are very hard workers and In most cases out work us Americans. I personally believe we made our citizens lazy and dependent on our government,
I'm afraid we will do the same to them.

I don't remember everything about the gang of 8
But if it's like most legislation they had a lot of crap in it that others didn't.
