I just showed how raw data could be manipulated, by depriving it of other context. If stats can be manipulated and cant be trusted, it doesn't matter, the raw date doesnt tell the full story. If some of the numbers can be discarded like you suggest, then your imagination just fills in the rest.

With additional border troops on the ground wouldn't crossing encounters increase?

OMG. Really? I’m loosing an argument in which I am stating a universally accepted precept that statistics without the raw data is worthless. What is a man to do? LOl. There are actual books (those are those rectangle things with paper) written on the subject. One of the most popular is Lies, Damn Lies and Statistic…required reading in my statistics class at UF. This is a word salad. Statistics are a description of data, often utilized to test a hypothesis. "Raw data is not statistical by itself" literally means nothing.

 

Statistics are not a description of data, they are typically a comparison of data with an end result being a conclusive assertion. The manipulation usually occurs in the conclusion itself, or providing incomplete raw data. No word salad here, just fundamental truth.

 

You might want to look up the words "descriptive statistics." And no, statistics are not purely hypothesis testing.

Nope. That statement, although I have never used it, is directed at the process. America has laws in place for immigration. Many people follow those laws and wait in line for their turn. Those are legal immigrants. Illegal immigrants are those people who enter this country and are in non-compliance with the law. A good way for you to think about them is how you describe people as white privileged. Illegal immigrants think they are special. The first thing the illegal immigrant does when he steps foot on our land is break the law, showing no respect for the USA or his fellow countrymen waiting “in line”. Hope that helps
