According to what I've read, Pence wanted to help Trump overthrow the election. Trump was pressuring him, calling him a wimp and who knows what else. Pence just couldn't find where he had the authority to reject the electoral votes. He went so far as to call former VP Dan Quayle to ask him if there wasn't some way he could do it. (And you have to be in pretty bad shape to call Dan Quayle for advice.) Quayle told him in no uncertain terms that he did not have the legal authority to reject the votes. So Pence "stood up to Trump" in the end because he couldn't find any way not to. I don't see any other way to interpret his call to Quayle if nothing else.

Probably trying to position himself to be Trump’s VP.

I don’t know…. He could have called Quayle looking for reassurance he was doing the right thing…. Hard to tell from that. I don’t think Pence wanted to make himself ground zero and basically the public leader of Trump’s attempted coup.

Yes, I suppose he could have been looking for some kind of reassurance from Quayle. I guess you would have to be a fly in Pence's hair or on the wall to know for certain.

Or for that matter any potential challengers from within his own party to the then incumbent president back in 2020.

I'm not even aware that The View exists until you guys bring it up. How do you keep up to speed on what happens on that show? I struggle to imagine anything more nap-inspiring...

I fully expect pence to move into second place since a lot of the right wingers wanted Trump policies without the baggage. Well Mike pence is exactly that person and if you vote for someone else than Pence is Trump without the baggage what you truly want?

Agreed. 1/2 of the contestants will have dropped out after the 1st primary. I see Trump, Desantis and maybe Scott standing on April 1. I think Trump is going to hemorrhage support, bit by bit, weekly. I don’t see Trump getting the nomination. I also don’t think Biden will ultimately get the nomination. It will be either health or he will make it seem like his choice, but I think the Dem machine will kick him to the curb. I think the same may happen to Trump.

Absolutely not. While I appreciate Pence not completely selling out to the traitor, in Trumps attempt to overthrow the country, I also blame Pence, McConnell, Graham and a whole host of GOP leaders for enabling the psycho every step of the way on his journey to rip the guts out of American bipartisanship.

It's discouraging to come to this board and still read poster support
for the Orange man. Vindibud, Tilly and others give me hope that some GOP supporters at least see through the facade of the orange man.

I recognize that "party" and "hatred" for the other side is a primary driver for American politics at the moment but it's shocking in the extreme to see conservatives still rallying to the Trump standard in the coming election.

I will be the FIRST to acknowledge how "F'ed" up our current system and situation is, and as bad as it is, electing Trump will end Democracy in the USA. "Putin Americana" will be the new system, subject to the whims of one of the darkest and most narrcissistic individuals to ever disgrace his American citizenship.

I will GLADLY vote for ANY Republican currently running for president, against trump, even DeSantis - with his twisted race/religon/social ideologies. At least he is not calling for Dictatorship.

Elect Trump and I see it devolving into a violent revolution. So while I don't care for Pence much I don't see his overthrowing the current system.

Americans SHOULD have better political choices, on both sides!
