For whatever reason Billy G has had difficulty recruiting top rated WRs in second stint with us. Don’t think he would have been able to recruit the kids we just brought in last year. Hopefully he gets that top WR commit to change the tide. Not sure if it is age, recruiting effort, or perhaps simply a cultural thing???
I think he's just not a good HS recruiter no matter how you slice it. Wasn't even paying any attention to Mizell according to him out of his own mouth.
That may be so but he did alright under Urbs and nobody could recruit under Mullen. When you boss is a lazy ass, I’m sure it can kill motivation when you know it makes no difference anyway.
Maybe and maybe we will be just fine. It takes time or cash to get your legs. I’m hoping we get more cash. Time takes time.
It’s a shame we lost Colbert. He was one of the best recruiters on the staff and last year’s class is proof of what he’s capable of. With all due respect to Gonzales he’s a downgrade in the recruiting department. I have my doubts if he can match the quality of WR recruits that Colbert landed last year.
I said the same thing when we first announced Billy G was back. He can coach for sure, but his ability to bring the talent in is questionable at best. Hopefully Napier and a different culture help with that
FWIW, there are those close to the situation that will tell you Colbert was not a great recruiter and not the key to this last wr class
Maybe we will. Time will tell. I just had a feeling that Colbert was gonna have an amazing haul this cycle, but oh well is what it is...
