Oxford defines bigotry as, "An obstinate attachment to a belief, opinion, or faction, in particular prejudice against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group." People here have prejudged "Princess Bob" based on his appearance, and as a result, would treat him different than a woman wearing the same cloths, or a man wearing pants instead of a dress. If you don't think that's bigotry, let's change Bob into Roberta, and also put a hijab on her under the dress. If a person refused to interact with Roberta based on the fact he believes she is Muslim, would you consider that religious bigotry? Yes or no? If yes, what's the difference between this and what some people are saying about Bob? I'm not going to tell anyone how to parent their own children. If you want to avoid Bob, that's your prerogative. But I am willing to tell people I think that avoiding Bob based on him wearing a dress is wrong, bigoted, and Bob himself is nothing to fear. He, as an employee of Disney, on the clock, working in a front-facing job, does not pose a threat to me, my kids, nor anyone else. There was a time when women wouldn't supposed to wear pants in public. When Disneyland opened in 1955, it had been only about 20 years since Marlene Dietrich made headlines by wearing pants in Hollywood, and not a skirt or a dress. But today, nobody cares if a woman is wearing pants instead of a dress or skirt. Here's another question. Why is it OK for a woman to now wear the same pants as any man, but it's still a major issue when a man wears the same dress as a woman? Last, like it or not, we're going to be seeing more of this at Disney. Every generation has been more accepting of LGBTQ+ than the generation before. And the generation now having kids are Millenials, who are bringing their Gen Z kids to the parks. Bottom line, Disney is a business, and the more people become accepting of a man in a dress, the more you will see representation at places like Disney.
Paraphrasing the commentary of high profile OB/GYN at the time the first "pregnant man" was in the news, the pregnant person wasn't a man but rather a hairy woman. The person still had a complete female reproductive system (obviously) and didn't become a man just because she was on male hormones for a while, which were also obviously discontinued prior to pregnancy, and had undergone a mastectomy.
I would imagine something like 90% of the posters here are straight white men going at it with each other.
How so? it was a response that claimed that everyone is allowed to raise their children as they see fit ... except white conservatives.
From what I read, @AzCatFan said he doesn’t see a danger to his children because a gay-like guy is selling dresses at Disney. How do you get that he called anyone a bigot from that?
It’s possible I missed the point, but as I understand the issue, it is whether DeSantis should be regulating homosexual behavior — proscribing children from attending drag shows, censoring literature, regulating speech. If the argument over these 800 posts is whether a parent should have a right to censor their own children, of course they should. Parents should parent as they see fit. I am philosophically aligned with what you ( mis)label as the libbies” on this point — I don’t see a problem with a costumed guy selling dresses in Disney. I didn’t generally shelter my children from people who were different. And, bluntly, I don’t care that you disagree with my parenting. Nor should I - our duty as parents is to our children, not to please others who may name-shame us.
Sounds like its the 'conservative' part that is the problem then right? No so much the other stuff. Maybe having the social views of the taliban combined with a plutocratic economic agenda doesnt engender much sympathy.
Hyperbolic and unfair characterizations aside, maybe you have a point somewhere in there. But that would also suggest that racial/ethnicity/identity issues aren't the true source of divisiveness in this country. It's politics. For example, if a gay Black woman agrees with me on everything, she would probably be treated just the same as me on this board.
Obviously a matter of opinion, yes if they still have a complete female reproductive system. That being said if they want to refer to themselves as male I really wouldn't object although I consider the term "pregnant man" an oxymoron. Again a matter of opinion and there is clearly a difference of opinion on the subject there is a difference between a "trans man" with an intact female reproductive system and one who has had a complete hysterectomy including removal of both the ovaries and uterus, a mastectomy and is on a regime of male hormones.
Yeah, you were saying? The backlash is REAL and it is happening here in FL. The abortion ban alone is enough to iceberg the RMS Desantis. Get out if your bubble.
I think you’re spot on — it is politics that’s the source of the divide. It’s the politicians that have exploited the differing viewpoints to raise anger, ire and hate. For example, A Black woman who might agree with you on multiple ideologies might take great umbrage at the murder of a black kid jogging through a neighborhood, and that is the line exploited by certain politicians.
