Rethought this… Gotta look big picture. If we can’t beat UConn with Nesbitt or Fisher we ain’t beating Tech with Nesbitt or Fisher. Gotta play to get to the finals and burning Waldrep for a UConn team that is throwing their #3 and don’t mash sets up the team for failure later on.
We did, but I guess the difference is we started 2-0 in that regional and only had to play 4 games instead of 5.
That was 2017, we won 2 games and then played BC for the championship. They won the first and then we won the next. I can't find where we ever won 3 in a row.
I just watched the Canes-Texas game and the Texas pitcher- a kid named Lebarron Johnson, from Jacksonville threw a complete game 4-1 win- throwing 130+ pitches. If you read his Perfect Game write up- he was a Gator commit- does anyone know why he's not tossing for us? Our "Aces" throw only 6 innings and turn it over to the Pen one inning too early as we witnessed tonight.
Just read where this is the 3rd year in a row that we have lost the 2nd game in the regional. 2021 and 2022 did not end well.
In the 16-seed era, winners of regional game 4 have won 51 times. Losers of game 4: 8 times. Winners of game 3: 5 times. Also a shout out to the guy who took upon himself to direct traffic at Museum&Memorial since UFPD can't be bothered. Anonymous traffic control vigilante, you the real MVP.
He's a great coach that gets teams with far less talent to play above their talents during post season. Since 2018, our coach has had very talented ball clubs play BELOW theirs. Pretty easy to see this.
Back to our Regional-- winning three straight will be challenging- doable but extremely hard to do. We almost made it last year. But this team has not hit well in last few weeks. My question - who pitches if we get by UConn? Neely and then... Tejeda? That is my beef with sticking with just 7 pitchers down the stretch and not allowing other guys to get some real game action. Is there a Dyson in the house? Losing as a #2 seed would be hard to stomach.
Gotcha. I knew we lost to them and won the Regional. I didn't remember the details and thinking that Bethune-Cookman would be the last remaining team with one loss is kind of crazy so I just assumed we lost to them earlier. That's what I get for assuming. LOL.
I'm not advocating to hold Waldrep but who would you like to pitch to TTU's homerun hitters Sunday night? It is what it is at this point.
UConn is no pushover- gotta win that one and worry about TT in the evening. We've played ourselves into a pickle with feeble hitting and it's frustrating. We started our Ace tonight and TT a bullpen guy who had zero starts on the year and he kept pace with our Ace. We were concerned with our lack of hitting vs FAMU and it was magnified against a better team tonight. Sully, likely won't, but I would shake up the lineup big time.
Lurk, Go to quite a few and watch every game and I cannot remember the mental lapses and looking lost like I saw yesterday. Their first pitcher did nothing overly special. We helped him w base running gaffe, swinging for the fences, and giving at bats away. I’m really hoping Kurland will shorten his swing. From where you sit you gotta tell me Didn’t Abner catch a break on that Bases loaded strike 3 call?
Even then tough to win 3 in a row. This everybody swing for the fences mentality rarely works. Another example of machismo over live to play another day ( walk their all American) was pitching to Kash after he already showed you he’s one of the best in the country.
Oh i agree, but they haven’t played a schedule. You and I already know this time of year it’s about who is mentally tougher.
