From where were they "banned" river?

You can't legally get these books anywhere in the state? There are a Hell of a lot more places in the state where you can legally get these books than where you can't.

If you want to call removing age inappropriate books from a public school children's library a "ban," again, every single state in the country without exception is complicit in "book banning."

I know diluting the meaning of pejorative terms is kind of the leftist thing now, but come on man. Do you want everything with a negative association to mean nothing anymore?

Did you read the link? Politifact is using the American Library Assn's definition of "ban." I suppose you can claim that is some sort of leftist conspiracy created to falsely discredit DeSantis if you want.

As we all know, librarians are Marxists who are trying to indoctrinate our children into believing that merely removing books that introduce them to dangerous ideas, like homosexuality, is banning books.

Its longform gishgallop. Kind of impressive he’s got time for that. Normally gishgallopers just sort of randomly drop their incoherent taking points. At each goalpost move, he writes a mini essay in support of his new point. That’s… something.

So would you agree every state in the country is complicit in banning books?

    don't know, don't really care.
the factcheck was about something that DeSantis said. And what he said was false. You disagree but don't really have a reason other than "yeah, but other states ...."

If you weren't a complete partisan hack, you should care.

People call this "book banning" to incite fear and get the headlines. When in context, it's not very different from what other states do on a regular basis. You not caring about the context suggests that you want the public to be mislead because in this case, it benefits your side.

Big time endorsement from . . . *googles the name* . . . some random Kentucky athlete who placed fifth in a swimming event at the NCAA Championships in 2022. This is YUGE!

OK, I'll email Politifact and tell them to make sure that they use your definition of "ban" rather than the American Library Association's.

I'd settle for putting this in context so that people don't think Ron DeSantis is the only one doing this. But I know that's too much to ask.

Monk is a little weak in the research department. He/she can embed links from Twitter on a world class level, but after that things have a tendency to go sideways.

He's the only one running for president that's doing it. Makes a difference, don't you "think?"

Not when literally every state does it.

If every state does it, it's not a story.

But by characterizing it as "banning books" you're going to provoke fear, which is exactly the point. You're trying to get the public scared of Ron DeSantis by taking his actions completely out of context.

So many goalposts moving. So now DeS isn't banning books per this poster..... but IF he was banning books it's ok because others do it..... but it doesn't matter anyway because it's NOT a story,..... but IF it was a story.... it's fine because banning books was brought up simply to "provoke fear and trying to get the public scared of Bootsie .... which was totally wrong because everyone was "taking his actions completely out of context." BUT those actions were NOT banning books (Politico must not know the definition) so really it's all fine. 715 spins with the best of them and I need a drink. LOL

Not a single goalpost was moved. This is an argument regarding semantics where people with real political incentives chose a very fear-provoking way of describing something that is normal.

I'm basically saying if this is "banning books" nobody should be scared anymore of "banning books" because every school in the country has met that standard for "banning books."

Now personally, I'd rather restrict that term for something much more drastic for purposes of political discourse, but if you guys want to dilute the term to the point that everyone's a "book banner," I guess I can't stop you.
