I guess we will hear something soon. This is from a recent article about his spring game where his new team lost and it didn’t look like be performed particularly well. But East Lee pass rush started getting home late in the fourth quarter, frustrating the Moore Haven offense. East Lee’s rushing game eventually wore down the Terrier defense and the Jaguars went on to win 28-8. Now, all eyes are on Simmons as he decides on whether or not to reclassify to 2023. Simmons is currently committed to the University of Florida and has two more years of high school football ahead of him. But he already has nearly 50 college credits and could reclassify to 2023, graduate early and join the Gators this fall. As of now Simmons is scheduled to be with Moore Haven next season. He’ll be talking to family members and making a decision on reclassifying soon. Moore Haven and Clewiston each host spring football games - South Central Florida Life
Let me guess his motivation: Wants to learn from 3 QB clearly ahead of him for 4 years. Wants to learn from a QB coach that will move on at the earliest opportunity. Wants to see Kiffin's latest co-ed. I think I figured it out.
Don't know what to hope for here. I'd be fine just having him reclassify to '24, redshirting for that season and then competing with Lagway for the starting spot in '25. I can see Lagway starting for UF midway through the '24 season. Simmons is an intriguing talent but I think Lagway will be ready to contribute sooner no matter when Simmons gets to campus.
Would be an interesting move. They just brought in Walker Howard from the portal and picked up a commit from a 2025 4 star 2 days ago.
That would really suck, I'd have to assume that means he's reclassifying to 24. I have no info other than what people have said but it seems like this year is too soon to reclassify and 25 is too far away for him, which means he'd be coming with Lagway in 24. So unfortunately looking elsewhere would make some sense for him. Hopefully that's just my paranoia and ptsd.
I get the feeling that the Simmons family and UF coaching staff aren't on the same page as far as when he should enroll. Not sure which side wants him to classify in 24 vs 25, but it sounds like the family isn't happy with UF's position.
I don’t see him hanging around until ‘25, and we already have our guy for ‘24. If he’s not coming in ‘23, I think he’s probably headed somewhere else.
and that's fine and having Lagway committed for 2024 helps the blow IF, and I say IF, Simmons decommits and goes somewhere else.
I’d like to go ahead and get him on campus this year if that’s a real possibility. If not, I think we agree we need to start looking for someone else for ‘25, and I’d think we probably already are.
Under the heading of "this Simmons to UM visit story gets curiouser and curiouser" the Rebs reportedly landed a commitment from a second solid QB for the '25 class this very weekend. With all the QBs they already have in place, after landing a strong crop last year and more recently in the portal, I can't help but wonder WTF is going on here.
If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Good programs are going to have good quarterback rooms and you have to win the job against another talented quarterback.
I agree. Kiffen is a heck of a good QB coach by all measures, but WTH? Only ONE can play at a time. Can we trade a stud RB for a stud QB with Ole Miss?
