"If ifs and buts are candies and nuts..."

That isn't often easy to achieve. BN could develop it, but I think that may take some time...

I was using efficiency and advanced stats. Total stats aren’t ideal for a variety of reasons. For example if your D stinks your O won’t be on the field as much.

No. It’s a math thing. We’d be closer to 15th. For example last year Clemson was 8th in D and nearly 50th in O.

And they weren’t very good. You need to be top 20 in both and preferably top 10 to be a legit team.

With a number eight defense you can do something. We weren’t 30 in anything

This is quite a bad result for them.

Well, if you look at the defenses of Arizona, Oklahoma and Kansas, one doesn't need efficiency and advanced stats. Their defenses were worse than ours...

We were top 25 in offense using advanced metrics.

If we were merely ok on defense (50th) we would have been a top 25 team

It’s not about Clemson in particular. I was refuting the point you need a top 25 offense and defense to be a top 25 team. You don’t. If you are top 25 in both you are likely a top 10 team. That’s why I brought Clemson up. They had a top 10 D and an ok (to be kind) offense…yet still finished top 15

The problem with our team was 99.99% defensive last year

Worst Gator defense i can remember. The fact that CBN knew we couldn't get a stop when we needed it changed our game plan and also changed the ability for us to play field position. We had to go whenever we could..

There’s been a couple to rival them the last few years though.

I’m not sure how six wins would translate to a top-5 class. Even I would cry foul that we had bought them under those circumstances. Eight regular season wins and a bowl win (where all of the players honor their scholarships and show up this time) might translate to the kind of recruiting bump you’re looking for. But I think your instinct is correct, and a 7-6 final record should be on the high end of expectations. My hope for recruiting is to land a consensus top-10 class this time around. There’s just no excuse for this program to land consistently outside of the top 10 as we have been for years.

Thank you for your comments uftaipan -

Recruiting wise - Your comment about a top 5 class is not unfounded. We finished outside the top 10 in a "bump-class" year by most services and after a nice start this cycle, UF seems to be struggling to keep up with the other top programs in terms of numbers.

We have - 8 - commits, check out the top 10 - most of them have 16 or more commits already.

The ZERO commits this last weekend is concerning IMO.Was supposed to be a big "push" weekend.

I think CBN will have a good class and probably a better one than last year.

But here is the problem - OK, lets say we wind up #9 this year in recruiting - Has UF GAINED any ground in the SEC When 5 or 6 other SEC teams are ranked higher?

The SEC is just crazy competitive in recruiting.

UF just lost TJ. Another local 5 star UF could not get.

Excuse my language but it really F'n SUCKS when UF is smack dab in the middle of arguably the best recruiting grounds in the entire nation and can't sign ANY of the really top rated kids (top 30) .......see Cormani as last years most obvious example.

Sadly I'm coming to the realization that myself and Gator Nation
have been in denial as to just how far the program has slid and where we actually are as a program. Vegas has UF at 5.5 wins for the coming season? Thats the national perception. I'm not expert but it does seem like Dan left a very bare cupboard.

Off topic but I really do appreciate your participation on the Ukraine War thread. I've learned alot from your sage posting.

Have a great day and go Gators!
