I would love my kid no matter what, if he was gay, trans, straight, cis, liberal, conservative, Jewish, Christian, Muslim, or Atheist. But should anybody be hoping that their child is trans? Should we feed otherwise healthy children with these doubts about their "gender identity" which they wouldn't have even questioned if the adults in the room didn't bother bringing it up? I don't remember a single person having this conversation in 5th grade or such a thought ever crossing my mind. Now it's not unusual for many kids to have these questions because the adults fed them with doubts. Which goes back to my point that you're confusing children. You're creating an identity crisis with many healthy kids that isn't there. And for the aforementioned reasons, you're pushing mental illness on children for the emotional validation of less than 1% of adults because that's the "tolerant" or "cool" thing to do now. It's sick.
Even cases of actual gender dysphoria are learned. Babies don't know much of anything apart from the fact that they're hungry or thirsty or need to poop. You learn gender norms, you build these associations in your head, and some people develop gender dysphoria which makes them think they were born in the wrong body. Some people may have a predisposition towards it, but to deny that there's any social component to it at all is completely incoherent (the modern view requires this view that gender is a "social construct") and completely removed from reality.
Well then I guess you have proved yourself a bigot also when you told me to take my redneck thoughts and go catch a catfish. Not much more bigoted than that.. Oh... but it can't bigotry when it is against a normal white male. I'm really starting to understand how the game works!!!
Interesting point. I did watch the short clip posted above as well. If that guy isn't gay, I'm turning in my gaydar forever.
That was speech. Refusing to buy from that bakery because of the baker’s religious beliefs would be bigotry. For the record it’s my opinion the gay wedding couple should have gone to another bakery. I’m sure there were others who would have done the work.
No. I dont want a sexualized conversation with young children which is where men in dresses at Disney can end up, so why even go there?
I've said it before, I'll say it again: We should have nothing but sympathy for people who suffer from gender dysphoria, but we shouldn't treat delusions from gender dysphoria as reality any more than we should treat delusions from things like anorexia as reality ESPECIALLY for kids. If you "play along" with the delusion for the sake of political correctness without ever explaining the reality to your child, you're parenting wrong. And I don't think this calls for a child to be removed from their parents because it takes an awful lot for me to think the government should step in for something as personal and precious as that, but you're damaging your kids by doing this.
Say what? Why in the world would a conversation go down that path? Child - Dad is that guy wearing a dress? Dad - Yes What is sexualized about that?
Oh, I should mention this, too. There's a big red dress event in NOLA. We may have talked about it before on here. I've never been but the folks I know who've gone include cops and other straight guys who I'm very confident are Republicans getting drunk in red dresses. They'd go with their girlfriends and wives, and apparently everybody thought it was funny. A close friend of mine also reminded me recently that there was an opposite sex day in our conservative high school in the 90's. I had completely forgotten about it. Not everyone participated, but I don't remember a single issue or complaint about it and neither did my friend who was in student government.
If you're more enthusiastic about that than anything else to show how tolerant you are, they're certainly more like to identify as trans or become a drag queen. I don't think you can turn anyone gay or straight, but anybody can identify as trans because there's no objective standard for trans. For all we know you might be trans because you liked to play with toy trucks as a little girl. And anybody can be a drag queen because that's just a choice to dress and look a certain way.
NOLA's wild man. One of my favorite places in the country. Do you know if they were going as a goof, or they actually want to look like women? I think the context matters a whole lot when we're talking about this as a cultural issue.
Bigotry doesn't have a non-offensive aspect to it; discrimination does (or at least can). Selecting an apple over a pear because you prefer the taste is a form of discrimination, not bigotry. Necessarily, you travel down the road of discrimination far enough and people won't see eye to eye on what's acceptable and what's not, but there is at least a simple basis for the existence of non-offensive discrimination. If that qualifies as bigotry a whole lot of leftists on this board have a lot of soul searching to do.
This seems presumptuous. Maybe the avoidance is due to the facial hair; some people do a better job of passing for a given role than others. Are "people with facial hair" a group that has members? If yes, then it is conceivable that EVERYBODY is a member of some group, so any avoidance at all would be considered "intolerant based on group membership" which would completely dilute the utility of the term.
