I still think the back-room-deals will ultimately decide the vote. Who gets who for "permanent" opponents being a big "negotiable" to get the required number of votes. This thing could blow-up if they're not careful. Sankey sounds like he needs another card to carry in his wallet: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Because the lead dog always has to piss on the fire hydrant last. Doesn't matter if he needed to piss or not.

Reminds me of back in the day when Alabama would not play 7 SEC conf games, but only 6 while everyone else played 7. Then they would "count" Bama's game against weak Tulane or Sanford & Son as the 7th conf game.

Nothing is free. I’d imagine some negotiations should be happening. Why play a real game for free that could be televised. I guess that’s 8 extra sec games that espn gets and they should pay for. That’s probably a few games that didn’t exist when the contract was made and they will be on tv.

My dads buddy wears a 73 national championship ring from when they got beat in, I think it was the sugar Bowl by Notre Dame.

That will be a load of shit like tge bcs and Auburn 04 comes to mind. I like winning a pod regardless of record outside the pod and having the four pod champions having a four game playoff. Get rid of the fake games and it’s no extra games. If Vandy needs their game that week, they can schedule a cupcake and pretend it means something. They get their full cut sec check anyway.

I still think it’s a joke that the big 10 has a higher paying tv contract than the SEC now that both conferences did their deals. They were smart to wait for us to do our deal first and then used it to get a better deal from the other networks. The SEC should stand firm in saying that espn needs to make us the highest paid conference if they want the extra game.

They won’t pay double for one more week. We may get an increase but not big 10 money.

Lol..pathetic of the SEC, so they stick at 8 and in 2-3 years they move to 9 which will of course reset all the games and somehow we'll end up playing at Alabama 4 times in a row ;)

By waiting to take this vote they will be allowing Texas and Oklahoma to have a say in the scheduling since they will be full members by2024.

Is it an extra week of SEC games or more SEC games to choose from each week? I believe it’s the latter.

It’s not just about (not) getting additional $$$ from the alphabet network either, they simply can’t agree on a schedule format, imho, after having plenty of time to do so. There are several factions with multiple concerns. The biggest of which is the bottom half of the league is worried they won’t get to 6-6 and make a precious bowl game. Then you have another group that plays 3 marshmallow ooc home games every season and they don’t want to give one of them up for a road SEC game every other year. Then there are some that are concerned another potential loss on the schedule might knock them out of the CFP. Weak! How about another quality win might be the difference in getting you in the CFP. Then you have smaller group led by Alabama that doesn’t like how the 3 permanent opponents will be divvied up. The plan that I personally liked the best would take the shenanigans out of that, the 1-8 plan, it’s very easy/obvious how to pair up everyone’s one permanent game. Then you rotate the other 8 and play everyone more often.

With 16 teams now and no divisions, playing 9 league games vs only playing 8 is a stronger barometer in determining who the top 2 teams are, imho. Playing only 8 is more likely to bring the tiebreakers into the mix.

    If I had a vote, I'd vote for 9.
But- not going to lie. 9 SEC games plus FSU is a tough schedule for us.
I can't imagine the name OOC games would happen in that scenario (like Utah, Miami, etc.)

I don’t mind the 1-8 format so much as it may be the best that they can do, but it is going to make for some very lopsided schedules on many years. I’d actually prefer four pods or divisions where the winner within that division has a 4 team SEC playoff. Something modeled more like the NFL does, just because you’re in a tough division it doesn’t knock you out.

There would be none since we play UGa in Jax and will need the add'l 2 home games.

That’s my biggest question, how will the rotating games schedule be determined. Computer, ping pong lottery balls or 3 or 4 guys huddled around a card table in a Birmingham back room office?? Will all teams be weighted the same? You could potentially end up with a stacked top end schedule or one that isn’t all that much.

If we go to nine conference games, and assuming the Florida/Georgia game remains annually and in Jacksonville, we will have to drop the FSU game. We could at least go to some sort of rotation with them if we are to have another meaningful OOC game each year and still be guaranteed 6 homes games a year. The mandate by the Florida legislature notwithstanding.
I guess this pretty much echoes what Crusher said.
