Those of us in Florida a few years ago thought the same thing about our otherwise predominantly moderate State. And look at Florida now withDeSantis dictating every facet of life in this State. If we’ve learned nothing else, DeSantis means what he says and does what he means. If you elect him to office, you know with certainty he will pass the most extreme laws that he says he will pass.
Desantis has appeared with him several times at turning point events. If there is any alignment with a KNOWN AUTOCRAT, that won't play well on the national stage outside the right bubble. Nice dodge and deflection. You KNEW exactly why I asked but are too chicken to answer.
I only watched 5-10 minutes and had to turn him off. No desire to sit through that again to cut out a clip. I will admit that I may be more than a little harsh when it comes to politicians speaking on Memorial Day.
Living proof that this board and politics in general has become simply about teams. "This guy was team Trump, so even when he says something I agree with, I need to take shots at him because he voted for Trump."
And every liberal liked him when he was no longer a threat. If I had a nickel for every time I heard, "what I would give to have George W. Bush back," during the Trump Administration.
Yep, and God forgive me, but I have no interest in unity with people who only want unity by submission. Possibly the only greater deterrent to voting for Trump than Trump himself are his hysterical critics and the lunacy of the Democratic Party.
Living proof that when you have no counter to the hypocrisy being pointed out, you make it about “teams”.
Have you ever considered that maybe people change over time, or that people don't agree with politicians they like on everything? Punishing people when they admit they were wrong or agree with you on something doesn't exactly incentivize much good faith. It incentivizes this "fight for your guy no matter what until you're red in the face" mentality.
Cry me a river. As I said before in the thread, when one has voted for Trump twice before by ignoring such statements and the “change over time” is merely moving on to the next shiny object in fancy white boots, then I have the right to be skeptical about the change.
I hope everyone who voted for Trump in 2016 OR 2020 hears this message loud and clear. They already hate you, and there's no changing that. You should give their opinion absolutely no weight.
You have a right to be skeptical, that doesn't make it a good idea to immediately demonize the person for changing. Who knows, maybe they're telling the truth. Or maybe in this case, the person never liked this aspect about Trump and is now voicing that.
What's notable to me is that Trump won the 2016 GOP primary with about 45% of the vote. The polls I'm seeing suggest he's at least that high now and maybe even a point or two higher. He does not seem to have lost support within the party. Pretty incredible unless the primary polling is significantly off.
Projection is strong with this one. They think that's what you're doing because that's exactly what they do and what they would do.
I think most of that is due to most people having known Trump's flaws for a while now, but the calculus changes when you see the alternative in office and in power right in front of your eyes. The incumbent typically has the advantage in politics, but that didn't seem to be the case for Trump and I'm really not sure if that's the case for Biden.
There's a lot of time left, but it's just fascinating to me given all of Trump's issues to include: losing the popular vote by millions both times; his impeachments; his January 6th actions and lies about the election both before and after; the number of convictions of people around him; a jury finding him liable for sexual abuse; the poor mid term performances based in part on his preferred candidates; his advanced age in a year where the GOP wants to make Biden's age a key theme, etc. One could argue that Republicans might continue to support Trump because they believe he has the best chance to beat Biden. But my recollection is that Trump won the 2016 primary despite the conventional wisdom that there was an electability issue. So I'm not sure that explains it. His name recognition is obviously huge, though, and I don't think most voters are paying that much attention yet.
The OP has sufficiently made it clear that he turned on Trump because he can’t win elections anymore and the sudden change of heart with regards to tolerating Trump’s behavior seems too convenient. No one is demonizing him for this, but I will certainly point out the hypocrisy.
