Went back and looked at the class again. It's bordering on elite and with a possible highly touted QB addition, would be elite. The number of early enrollees speaks to the character of the group and Napier's intention to play them early. I'm excited for this class and the next one. Championship level recruiting, now we just have to coach them up.
This time last year I said that Billy wasn't on pace for bump class historical benchmarks, but if they managed to pull a .92 player average or better or a top 7 class ranking, it should be considered a successful class. The fact that all the players averaged out to over .92 AND are enrolled, is a positive sign. It appears that Billy is just a year behind our anticipated schedules due to a combo of NIL, early signing days moving schedules around, and giving existing players a shot before cleaning house, rather than cleaning house the moment he stepped on campus. The 24 class is shaping up to be a very high quality class and will probably be a better indicator of bump class quality than 23 was, even with the high average. If staff's evals prove consistent and the 23 and 24 class has contributors of similar quality to the 22 transition class, we'll be fine.
Beginning his 2nd season with this level of recruiting, please explain to me how Napier can possibly be a year behind your expectations. And what’s this “our” crap?
Napier didn’t have that top 5 we all hoped for but they were highly ranked as individuals. We had the Rashada crap and it hasn’t been all smooth sailing. I also think we had a smallish class and that was probably by design as we needed to hit the portal to at least steady the ship a bit this year. We don’t have a three deep like the top teams and we are bringing in starters from the portal out of necessity. It’s just a bigger rebuild than some may have expected but I don’t think we were in a position that we could afford to bring in 25-30 highschool kids. We needed some starters.
Damn straight it’s a bigger rebuild than “some” may have expected. And how do you build this 3-deep in 1-1/2 recruiting classes? Napier is not accountable for meeting unrealistic expectations of spoiled or impatient fans. Build it the right way Coach
I’d expect it to be close to 5 years to get that kind of depth. We can build deeper when we don’t need to hit the portal so hard.
None of those coaches took over a shit show. They all had very talented rosters that they inherited .
