3 bogeys on 18 kinda spoiled the day....-2 today and -1 overall. Illinois in the clubhouse at -6, Pepperdine at -4 with a few holes left, Unc finished at +1 UF actually used Kress score today and dropped Lin who has also had a disappointing tourney thus far at +6. Biondi is -5, Castillo and Dubois -1
Nobody really wins tomorrow, top 8 go to match play. Gators are currently 12 shots clear of that line. As far the 18, the other top 4 teams had 5 bogies and 2 doubles, so we were fairly average there, and we played it later in the day than they did too. Overall today was all they needed to do, one more steady round and they move on. Tv coverage tomorrow at 5p on golf channel.
Lesson to be learned though, fairly late in the round UF was 17 clear of the top 8 cut line.....and in a blink that number was 12
the team standings say 15 teams advance and ties will be resolved. tosu and t tech are tied for the 15 slot. which team advances or will 16 teams play the 4th round?
5th ranked TT got bounced as the 16th team I'm not 100% on this, but I think the tiebreak for the 8th spot today would be your 5th golfer whose score had been dropped. Slightly concerning because Kress at +12 is one of the worst scores for almost all the contending teams. Hopefully doesn't come into play in that regard, but he will have to pick it up during match play because you can't start in a 1-0 hole every match. Good thing is, he does make a fair amount of birdies, his problem has been a couple of blow up holes....that doesn't hurt as much in match play
Almost to the turn, still even par. UF is going to have to count on Kress today....for the second day in a row Lin is struggling. Had a bogey and triple bogey infirst 5 holes and is tied for 66th place. Everyone but UF and Illionois are below par among the top 8 so UF losing ground slightly.....10 strokes ahead of th place FSU If it ended now UF would match up with GT in the quarters, but that could easily change over the back nine
Everyone is on the back 9 now, UF one over for the day...still in 4th Biondi was carrying us but doubled the 7th, still 2 under. Dubois had a 3 bogey stretch also. Kress is even for the day which is huge. UNC and FSU are the big movers today. Noles 5 under and in 6th, Heels 8 under and a 3 stroke lead on the field. UF 14 strokes ahead of 9th place Auburn, so reaching match play is good barring an absolute meltdown. UF 2 strokes ahead of 5th place GT, who is still the likely QF opponent And while I type this UF pops a couple of birdies
Nice stretch....uf -5 on the back 9 early 3 way tie for 2nd place at -3 4 strokes behind unc, 5 clear of 5th place gt
More than halfway thru back 9 Unc -9 UF -4 Illinois-2 Pepperdine-1 GT +2 Fsu +7 Virginia +11 Stanford/Arizona st +12 Great position...just stay steady
Last couple of holes for final group UF 2 clear of Illi and Pepperdine, 3 back of unc....it's all about the matchups now 2nd place will match up with 7th place UVA, unless Stanford can pass them on the 18th GT in 5th but butchering 18...Fsu in the clubhouse one stroke back of them
