Our record last year had very little to do with AR. To recap a previous post, we were tied with Ga. for the least amount of punts last year. We either scored or turned it over on 4th down more than punting. The most consistent feature of our team was the fact that we and our coaches all knew our D could not consistently get a stop, which took away playing field position, TOP, and also bleeding the clock strategies out of our arsenal.
AR had to score, and when our team didn't we were in big trouble. Even against USF, we couldn't get them off the field. Our D was arguably one of the worst i can remember. Couple that with a well below average receiver core and last years' troubles were very explainable.
I expect our D, with new coaching, younger player being more experienced, improvements from the portal and recruiting, to be a major improvement this year. Patience is important, and i think Mertz or whomever will have a much easier job of playing a complete game than AR had.

My thoughts exactly. Anthony has taken an unfair amount of the blame… as well as the whole offense, for that matter. With KY really being the only outlier in the L column. AR isn’t responsible for UGA, FSU, LSU scoring 40+ on us. A mediocre defense would have given us 8 wins last year. A better than average defense 9 or 10 wins.

The 5.5 over/under line is an easy bet IMO. And I’m pretty certain we will not be in that Tier 4 area of that dumb graphic by seasons end either.

AR could’ve been the difference between 8-9 wins or only four. He got 6.

That’s true, expecting a kid to put the team on his back is too much. That’s exactly what he did at the end of the Utah game. He got us too excited and we expected too much.

I will never respect anyone who defends Patrick Toney

Easily the worst Gator coach in our history

1979’s 0-win team had nothing on a 2022 team with 5 top 150 picks who underperformed so massively

Even with AR's performance in the Utah game, we were looking at a loss at the end of the game as Utah marched down the field on us. It took a mistake by their QB and a pick in the endzone to bail us out of what looked like a certain Utah win near the end. Most any of our D's in the past 25 years (except those under TG and last years) would have gotten us off the field without the need for last minute dramatics.

Even without glasses, you can see what Coach is building through his recruiting. Give him time to capitalize on his recruiting and getting the right players that buy into his playbook style and we will be a very proud and dominant program. The Guru of offenses, Mullen, watched his program collapse. Then he gave it to Napier. Napier’s staff is recruiting at an amazing pace. I hope we will stay with the program and support our team and staff. If not, we will be the ones at fault and it will be almost impossible to find a long term Coach we will be satisfied with.

Remember for a time on here we weren’t allowed to refer to CC as Cheeseburger Charlie, it was deemed offensive, much like his offense.. :D

Lynn Amadee says hello and "hold my beer." He beats them all.
Galen Hall actually supplementing his salary and breaking NCAA rules may be the biggest head scratcher of all time.
