So you're suggesting that anti-vaxxers had a right to infect elderly cruise ship passengers by refusing to be vaccinated even if the cruise lines themselves thought that it would be both economically prudent as well as morally right to protect their clientele.

I'm saying Florida has a right to pass a law to prohibit discrimination against people who are unvaccinated.

Considering that the vaccines were already available and accessible, the public health interest in mandating vaccination even on a private level was inferior to the freedom interest of letting people make their own choices. At that point, anybody who wanted to be safe from COVID was pretty safe from COVID. And if being vaccinated yourself wasn't enough for you, and you're still worried about getting killed from COVID, you probably shouldn't be going on a cruise anyways.

They don't have a right to shop in my store or board my cruise ship.

Sadly I’d just settle for a candidate who doesn’t present him or herself as an arrogant, mean asshole. For me they don’t get out of the starting blocks. Desantis nor Trump can pass that litmus test. Haley and Scott seem to and hopefully we have some other candidates who can as well. It’s passing basic kindergarten behavior.

Two points, keeping in mind that cruise lines were really hurting in early 2021 in order to attract passengers they had an interest in ensuring that their passengers a disproportionate percentage of whom are older would not be exposed to Covid. While vaccines did indeed provide a high level of protection, potential passengers would be even more protected against contracting the virus if all of the other passengers as well as the crew of the ship were vaccinated. As far as freedom is concerned no one was forcing anti-vaxxers on to cruise ships. They could either not take cruises or find cruise lines that voluntarily elected not to impose vaccination requirements on their passengers.

Absolutely, they could always find a cruise line or a store that didn't impose a vaccination requirement.

LOL what a terrible argument. You want big gov dictating to private companies. Got it.

Who was forcing the vaxxer fascists on the cruise ship? They could either not take cruises or find cruise lines in other states that allowed discrimination against the unvaccinated.

I really wouldn't mind if Haley won at all.

I just think there is a better option.

It really is straight of Orwell. Freedom means doing what the government forces you to do and saying what the government forces you to say. And they really believe it too, is the crazy thing.

Not cruise ships. No state has the right to pass such a law.

Ya'll don't favor prohibitions on discrimination for private companies?

What speech is anybody compelling Democrats to make?

You have a strange idea of what freedom is. Freedom comes with the responsibility to not harm others, not to do whatever you want to do no matter who it hurts. But by all means go ahead and hold your breath until you turn blue.

And apparently it includes compelling private companies to provide services to people they don't want to.

So, here you go. All of a sudden you guys don't seem to like that very much.

Power is always exhilarating when you're the one wielding it, but it kind of sucks when it's used against you. The quicker ya'll learn that lesson, the quicker we move on from this brand of politics.

Not even close, slick. It's perfectly legal to be prejudiced and discriminate...as long as you don't do so on impermissible grounds. Being an idiot is not a suspect classification...they can cruise and shop elsewhere.

Why can't Florida make it one?

Sounds like Florida is fighting for the rights of the unvaccinated to me.

I think your comment made more sense in your head before you typed it. The government has every right, actually a responsibility, to protect the health of it’s citizenry against those who feel they have the right to assault it for their own pleasure.
