I’m sure there are a number of things he fails to understand.

 

He just explained it to you, and it is as if it went over your head.

You wanted people to share their thoughts on DeSantis and why they don’t like him. We did, and now you are arguing with us.

If you want a candidate that preaches to his choir, is all culture war all the time, acts tough, trolls the other side, engages in conspiracy theories and is against free speech and combats corporations based on their constitutionally protected speech, then DeSantis is the man for you.

My point was primarily to lightheartedly poke fun at “Democrats can’t influence the outcome of a Republican primary” being said by someone who I’m pretty sure has little doubt that Russian nationals influenced an American election, not to suggest that neither is possible (both certainly are).

 

The test of how scared the Democrats are is a perfectly timed rape/sexual assault accusation in the election cycle. If DeSantis wins the primary some perfectly timed false accusation will come up. That is when you know the Democrats are really scared.

A huge part of Russian interference involved hacks, so it's not really a good comparison. There was also a centralized Russian preference for Trump over Hillary, while Democratic preferences on Trump vs DeSantis has no clarity, if there even is a preference. Generally, Democrats say they are both shades of the same awful, which wouldn't affect the primary election in the same way as say, spreading positive propaganda for Trump, while smearing Hillary with false stories and hacked emails.

It's also entirely unclear whether Russian interference in fact did impact the results of the election. The bigger issue was always that Trump invited it, knew it was happening, and didn't do anything to stop it (active participant in a conspiracy or not).

 

Bad question. Not worth the debate. Any intelligent person would prefer Nicki Haley or Tim Scott to Trump or DeSantis. Doesn’t matter what party they belong to. And don’t twist yourself into knots over DeSantis getting elected. He is unelectable now. The rest of the country has seen the consequences of his governance. There is nothing conservative about him. He is a radical right wing extremist. The only people who see him as Normal are the same.

 

Don’t expect them to understand. If they agree with the retaliation, they can’t get to the feee speech implications. Even on a board of college educated people. Free speech only matters to them when they agree with the speech— like in the baker case.

 

I wish the race would end up being DeSantis vs. Kennedy. I want DeSantis to win, but I'd rather have Kennedy than 4 more years of Biden or Trump. It's laughable to think of all the woke folks in here having to either hold their noses and vote for an anti-vaxxer or stay home and let DeSantis win.

Same except I hope it's Biden vs Scott so all the maga folks have to hold their nose and vote for an actual conservative Christian and not someone who just plays to their perceived grievances.

 

You think these as takes on freedom are good? You think attacks on by far the largest driver or tourism are good? Freedom isn’t the freedom to agree with the all powerful state. Its the freedom to disagree and even express unpopular views without the state retaliating. Which is why what Florida has done to Reedy Creek is illegal. But you can take comfort in the fact that the state will spend millions in federal stimulus Mikey to get to the list where the law is struck down as illegal. DeSantis and his base-you— can’t even discuss the law without arguing that it is a good thing because it retaliates. This is antithetical to freedom.

I don’t know if they will. Remember Scott is African-American so the far right Trump/DeSantis voters may just go back to their original Party like the The American Freedom Party, or The Fascist League of North America.

Its also fun to think of all those moderate Republicans, who may have gay or black friends and relatives, and may think Disney is a well run, reasonable company, that should have been left alone, or who like Budweiser, or who know that Florida is the joke of the nation and no other states want to “be Florida”….
