Yes its creative stupidity but it's still better than the disco helmet or a big atrocious gold chain or some other strange homerun celebration. If the players like it and that gets them more homeruns to enjoy, fine by me.
It’s amazing to me that kids in decades past were able to play sports without disco helmets, luggage carts, turnover backpacks, touchdown scepters, all-black uniforms when black isn’t even a school color, camo hats “to support the troops!”, etc. How was that possible?
To me it means nothing more than college kids find fun things to do when they are on the road in hotel hallways when its after curfew.
Brief discussion by game announcers: They normally do the same routine with a laundry cart that they take along to away games, but didn't bring to B-ham. This cart apparently stolen from their hotel.
So, let me get this straight. Vanderbilt already has one loss, to us, in this tournament and if they beat us this time we're out of the tournament with just one loss? That sucks. How many times do we have to beat the crap out of this team? I know, the regular season doesn't count, but dayum... Even R J Schreck said it's hard to beat a team 5 times in a row... He meant in the same season of course, but still... 5 times? That's just nuts.
The format for the SEC tournament is crazy, but pretty much forced by Disney/ESPN/ABC. Single elimination on Day 1, then double elimination to the semifinals, then single elimination the last 2 days. It is nuts, but it is what it is.
On the other hand could you imagine having to play 3 more games? You only have so many arms to pitch 5 or 6 games over a 5/6 day period especially with regionals coming up.
I like the way the ACC does it with pool play, then single elimination semifinals and finals. 5 games max.
Not sure how there could be 5 games max in ACC. Three team pools followed by semis and finals would be 4 games max. With the funky tiebreaker rule, the highest seed in the pool can win the pool before they play the second pool game. Don’t like that format at all - definitely doesn’t stress pitching staffs but the top 8 in SEC can win tournament playing 4 games also.
Agreed @ocalaman , but at least you can follow it—unlike that damn round robin pool play format the ACC uses.
They should rethink this and make it so that if you beat a team early then have to play that team later in the tournament that they have to beat you twice. That would mean Vandy would have to beat the Gators twice to move on to the Championship game. We should make the time by ending the regular season early enough to make that happen. But alas... all we have to do is beat Vandy for the 5th time to get to the 'ship... Go Gators.
That's logical, but $$$ drives the decision-making, not what makes sense. When TV says do it a certain way, the conferences do it that way, unfortunately.
