This is such a huge problem for the GOP.

What is crazier is that there are Republicans that KNOW FOR A FACT they are on the losing side of this issue and the lack of compromise and even down right draconian laws, make 2024 that much harder.

This cuts through it all. Desantis does not appeal to moderates. He hasn't tried to appeal to them. If anything, he has drawn a line in the sand. Many people are not comfortable putting someone like that in the WH. RD has walled himself into a certain box of voters. Again, that abortion ban was/is the end.

For the desantis fans here, I will say at least he doesn't seem to be the misogynistic criminal that trump is. :)

However as potus he will not have congress lined up by him as he does in Fla, much tougher if not impossible to get his culture war legislation passed and even tougher due to his lack of charisma ( which trump actually has).

Desantis' problem is he is a boring guy going up against an entertainer. Desantis wants to talk results but people want to hear about hopes and dreams. People want to hear jokes, they want to smile and feel like they are talking to someone who gets them. I don't think he's capable of doing that. There is no way he beats Trump let alone a national election. At this point he has to hope that Trump is physically not capable of running

    The cognitive dissonance is unreal.

Normal people look at these conspiracy theories and shake their heads. Saying you will pardon known criminals does NOT appeal to the middle. If you think you are "just asking questions" then you are using the Alex Jones/Tucker Carlson defense. And it is a loser on the national stage.

Giving him credit where credit is due, DeSantis probably led the country in ensuring that the elderly in Florida were vaccinated; in fact Florida became a destination for vaccine tourism. Of course that was before Meatball Ron become an anti-vaxxer. As far as spring breakers are concerned virtually all of them were young and unlikely to develop serious cases of Covid although they probably spread the disease very often to more vulnerable people when they returned to their home states.
Florida issues new Covid-19 vaccine residency rules to cut down on 'vaccine tourism'

It is pretty remarkable how Desantis has been able to steal the Covid narrative when the facts are not as attractive.

New York had 25% of its total deaths by May 2020, and 50% by Jan 1 2020.

Florida had less than 5 percent of the deaths by May 2020 and about 25% by Jan 1 2020.

That equates to Florida having a 50% higher death rate in 2021-2023.

New York COVID - Coronavirus Statistics - Worldometer

Florida COVID - Coronavirus Statistics - Worldometer

This isn’t something to brag about.

On a per capita basis FL is about 60% higher than CA death rates.

Most of the states with the high death rates are red states, and they tend to be 50-100% higher than the bluest states.

Because too many people didn't/don't care about deaths unless they were personally impacted.

Again, what vaccines are required to keep (not get) your job? To elaborate, you had a job, a vaccine came along and was mandated to you to keep the job. There are many jobs that are solitary and yet this vaccine was being mandated to these people though they didn't ever go into an office.

Are you suggesting that the state of Florida doesn't have the power to establish or dissolve special districts at will? Are you sure?

It won't matter. In 2024 I don't expect covid policies from 2021 to be a deciding factor of who people vote for
