It's different because Desantis passed a law to remove books with content that conservatives don't like, but couldn't remove under previously existing laws/rules.

    1. No, it's not being put in the hands of the people. The dumbest, most bigoted person (don't even have to be a parent) gets to challenge the book. They don't then have every parent at the school or in the district vote on it.
    2. Even if it was, "the people" aren't the ones who should be making those decisions. Just like "the people" aren't the ones who should be deciding what instruments your surgeon uses, what arguments your attorney makes, or what parts your mechanic uses.

But I'm glad you're admitting it is different than it was 10 years ago. The anti-intellectualism that has infected your party is harming the kids. But I'm wasting my time. You love government suppression of ideas, as long as they're ideas you disfavor.

States with the most deaths in order:
    1. California
    2. Texas
    3. Florida
    4. New York

Looks like it's just based on population size to me, not policy.

States with the highest death rates in order:
    1. Oklahoma
    2. Alabama
    3. Texas
    ........
    18. Florida

Should we do that every time there's a protest from this vocal angry minority of people? "Have a vote on it" from everybody. Because that's not how colleges or schools for that matter have typically handled protests. If a vocal minority whines about something (typically a lib) they go along to get along.

I hope every Democrat runs on exactly this point. And I wish ya'll the best of luck.

It's different because you don't like the politician removing the books from public school libraries and you think those books should be offered to children despite being inappropriate.

It was pretty effective. I feel pretty aware of my bias but clearly no one’s perfect. I’m close though.

I support mutually assured destruction. That's it.

If a court "strikes down" DeSantis because he goes too far, I won't complain. On the contrary, I'll be pleased that everyone in the system including DeSantis did their job.

I hope every person moronic enough to think that history/science/math curriculums or what books are in school libraries should be subject to majority votes moves out of the country.

It has its limits. I think destroying small businesses and livelihoods is a pushing those limits. Regardless, even if justifiable, it is still authoritarian.

If these books are so inappropriate then why was a new law needed? Couldn't they have just been removed under the existing protocols for inappropriate material?

Nothing I said is even remotely MAGA. Not even a little bit. For one, i never defended DeSantis in my claims.

Because a lot of these schools are being run by progressive activists who don't give a shit about what's actually appropriate or how parents want to raise their kids. They're the experts and they know best.

The whole book thing is dumb anyway. As if kids are going to learn something inappropriate from a book that they wouldn't already learn from the internet or a classmate.

Great, then you have nothing to worry about and all of this whining about DeSantis is moot.

do you understand that the state cannot grant approval to build airports and nuclear power plants? State can deem them an allowable use but cannot permit them. you continue to demonstrate a serious lack of understanding of what special districts are and how they function. FYI, I am engineer of record for multiple special districts and have been involved in the creation of 8 that I recall with two more in process.

Just a giant waste of time and tax dollars so Desantis can say "woke" an extra 6 or 7 times when he speaks.
