I'd take Desantis over Trump ALLLLL day. Trump deeply offended me on an almost daily basis while he was President. Ron sucks, but Trump is the worst ever.

All the more reason he's become a liability as far as I'm concerned. A reasonable conservative view of Trump is that he can do good things and has done good things, but no reasonable conservative view can think that Trump puts the party before himself.

Unlike Trump, DeSantis won't take shots at other guys on the same team unless they take shots at him first.

And when he takes those shots, they are effective and not childish.

They are both offensive. You are right that Ron is less so as he is an authoritarian but unlikely a traitor. Trump is a traitor.

One other thing to consider is how DeSantis would do without controlling the house and senate. It's much easier to get things done in your state with a large majority on your side. From what I've seen of him, he doesn't seem like much of a negotiator across the aisle.

You can certainly make the case that any President would have difficulty accomplishing anything without having the house and senate but I personally think Desantis would have an especially difficult time.

What in the world did Vindi say to deserve such an insulting response?

Consider it a badge of honor. It means she has no argument. I have a vest full of those badges that I wear with pride.

If Desantis were to be elected I don't think he would be openly antagonistic/hostile to 60% of the country like Trunp was daily. Trump is a full blown idiot child troll. Desantis is at least capable of behaving like an adult.

Agree. Not sure I would vote for DeSantis after his move of abortions to 6 weeks. That was monumentally stupid in my view as most of the US is in favor of where the abortions were legal(20-24 weeks). I would have to think he has someone smart saying this is an election killer but I guess not. He is a much better alternative to the idiot though. Not even a debate.

A big problem I have with the "authoritarianism" complaints about DeSantis as far as this election cycle is concerned is that to act like his tendency to actually use his office to make moves in the culture war is exclusive to him.

This is a mainstream thing from the biggest contenders for the Presidency from both parties.
    1. All of them have lost in court.
    2. All of them have tried to use their authority in a manner the courts struck down.
    3. All of them have used the power of their office to make moves in the culture wars.

It's really a matter of people honing in on DeSantis because they don't like him and he's a threat. And right now, we're seeing a lot of people pile on because the media feels that way, Biden feels that way, Democrats in general feel that way, and Trump feels that way. Dude has a lot of people who don't like him right now, but that's not necessarily a negative reflection on him considering the motives of these very same people.

Off the top of my head, he tried to ban cruise ships from requiring vaccinations to board. He tried to prevent companies from holding diversity training for their employees.

    would you consider that authoritarian?

What if he said he thought abortion should be a state issue and he said he would veto federal legislation regarding abortion (I doubt the latter would happen, but hypothetically speaking)?

Still think it should be where it was. Mostly everyone was happy(the 20% on each side that are nuts will always want more).

Funny thing is, this is a race where if the republicans nominated a Jeb or a Romney, they'd easily win. Since Biden doesn't exactly fire anyone up, the only way he wins is if the Republicans nominate someone so vile that it ignites the democrats against them. Thankfully, Republicans have two of those on tap for the nomination ...

No more authoritarian than closing small businesses and ruining livelihoods for longer than necessary, like many governors did.

One reason I really want DeSantis to be the Republican nominee is because it will give us a pretty good indicator of where the country is and how we move forward.

Trump doesn't tell us a whole lot because a lot of people won't vote for him simply because he's an asshole with a big mouth with sexual assault allegations who paid off a pornstar.

That's fine, but that wouldn't be an issue as President under the hypothetical I just told you. In that case, any damage DeSantis would do on abortion has already been done.
