Donald Trump is an utter and complete clown. Ron DeSantis is an absolute machine. While DeSantis was out talking policy and real conservative accomplishments Wednesday, this is what Trump was vomiting:

    WTF does that even mean?

Everything that I have seen from the Orange Fan Club has been about how, "X Bad person likes DeSantis so you shouldn't vote for him."

Because you should always dictate your vote about a candidate because of what some other person thinks about them...

Any intelligent Democrat will do everything they possibly can to help get Trump the nomination because Trump is an ineffective raging loser.

    Change my mind.

The Republican nominee will be chosen by Republicans, not Democrats.
    I hope that helps.

    I can’t change your mind.

I think DeSantis is marginally better than Trump. But I think DeSantis is awful. I think he is a wanna he authoritarian in the style of Victor Orban.

Desantis is been anything but a machine on the national stage and I’ve been saying this implosion was a real possibility long before he even opened his mouth on a national stage.

I'm terrified of anyone that has the approval of the Republican base being granted the executive powers of the Presidency.

I'd say the opposite, which probably agrees with the OP. Trump sucks, but he accomplished nothing of significance during his term, even with the House and Senate.

DeSantis sucks, but has also managed to pass legislation that sucks.

I’d say Trump did accomplish some things. If it weren’t for his terrible personal idiocy you could argue he was an OK president policy wise, although I didn’t like many of the policies.

But I will agree somewhat that DeSantis could be more dangerous in that he isn’t as incompetent as Trump and may be more effective at ramming through terrible policy. But his disaster if his pre campaign has me wondering about him being competent, at least on a national stage.

I’d be happy to change your mind, but after reading your post I’m convinced you lost yours and don’t have a mind to change.

The Tallahassee dwarf doesn’t need anyone to help him lose since he’s doing just fine losing all by himself.

Agreed. If I were on the left (if I’m not), I would want a weaker candidate on the other side. Trump is probably weaker, but DeSantis doesn’t currently seem poised to gain all that broad of an appeal either.

I also personally think Trump is an unacceptable human to be elected to the highest office in the land. I think DeSantis is ok as a human, but I am very much opposed to his authoritarian politics. Others seem to embrace them however.

Dems and the MSM want Trump for sure. Not only ratings wise but they know he will lose again(not in his mind of course). DeSantis is feared by trump and the MSM. I have disagreed with many of the DeSantis's moves in the past 6-9 months(abortion being the biggest). Anyone trying to move abortion down is going to lose in my estimation. DeSantis handled Covid very well, but since then it's been misstep after misstep.

You really think I'm a mindless person? That's what you're going with? It is impossible that I could have reasonably and honestly come to this perspective?

I can’t speak for you personally but I think DeSantis supporters broadly fall into two camps:

    1. People that like his MAGA style culture war non sense and think he is Donald Trump 2.0 without Trump’s personal baggage.

    2. More traditional republicans who are in denial of his authoritarian / populist tendencies as well as his utter lack of political competence on a national stage.

It's a bit of a mixed bag. For example, if Trump wins the nomination, DeSantis supporters will accept it. If DeSantis wins the nomination, I doubt Trump will concede.

Two extremists ... hard to tell which would be worse for the county. Trump wants burn down the country to get revenge. DeSantis's main obsession is to reimagine Jim Crow laws for LGTB people. Both should be easy to beat on a National scale...

We should start calling these anti-LGTB laws "DeSantis Laws", so that his name is forever associated with the hate and bigotry he is brewing across the country.

I do support DeSantis and here are the reasons why:

    1. The apples to apples comparison would be the Trump presidency with the DeSantis governorship. When comparing the two, there is no contest. I don't ever wake up seeing DeSantis on social media composing tweets with a 3rd grade writing capacity railing about how things are unfair nor do I see him engaging in childish slap fights. He is relentlessly focused on getting things done and getting them done quickly. I wish every governor in the Union were as disciplined as DeSantis is regardless of their party.

I'd like to have a better perspective of your view point. What are some areas where you feel he is authoritarian? There are several ways to define populism, to better understand your view, how do you personally define it?
