It’s pretty obvious that FSU has prioritized their NIL money towards transfers instead of incoming recruits. Seems like a good temporary solution but let’s see what happens in a couple of years when their depth chart is filled with scrubs and they miss out on some needed transfers.
We've tried that. You live by the transfer and die by the transfer. The portal should be used for plug and play athletes, rarely long term fixes. A team with a good HS recruiting machine and a good developmental program will generally always be better long term
The transfer portal hasn't been around even 5 years so far. Might be too soon to measure long term with accuracy. Colorado has 48 transfers, probably a wild extreme, and UGa has 3, probably also an extreme from stacking insane talent from HS. It will be interesting to see if shuffling 8 out and bringing in 8 transfers becomes the norm.
I mean that's true but if you are able to do good in HS recruiting, which FSU has been doing (so far at least) this cycle, then misses in the portal don't hurt. Time will tell I suppose. Go LSU!! lol
Lmao I think Norvell is using the TP for instant results and hoping that translates into better recruiting results. I don’t think anybody can lean on the portal as hard as Norvell has consistently. And damn I can’t wait for those tigers to kick their ass
No different that HS recruiting. If you miss on a couple of those recruiting cycles your chances of success on the field is also diminished. A blend of both are important now and will remain so unless the Portal is reined in at some point in the future.
Except with the portal you're hoping the player is developed already to your liking because you usually only have 1 or 2 seasons to play a transfer whereas with high school recruits you may get what you're looking for after a couple of seasons of being developed by the same staff and system. OL in particular is one where great players often emerge as upper classmen (Jr &Sr's) and it's much harder to find a plethora of quality offensive linemen In the portal. There are some good ones but the quantity of them doesn't support the need across multiple conferences searching the portal. The problem becomes compounded even more if that portal player came from a different system and spends 1 of the maybe 2 eligible seasons just learning the playbook and system in order to become effective.
It’ll be on the table this time, no surprises. I don’t think lsu was a world beater last year though.
