Wc nailed it however I believe in some cases it's more than just termination and may require a felony conviction.

Yes. Rick Scott started the 3% contribution for state retirement employees. We had a city commissioner defiantly and spitefuly tell our labor head that she thought it was a great idea and that the firefighters and cops in our city should also pay 3%. We looked at her and said no problem....by the way, our contribution is 10% so we will be happy to get a 7% raise.

The disconnect was palpable..... She was the wife of a wealthy developer who took the position to better facilitate her husband's benefit for high end condo development in one of our city's districts. Totally Clueless and unfut to actually commission a district but that is our political system.

We rotate troops on active duty because living with that kind of stress is bad for you. Cops are out there for years on end.

Cheaper than paying the lawyers when they sue for their retirement funds.

I would think this case would come down to startled or scared with finger on the trigger. Training and fitness for duty. Ymmv

My point is if you pay into every pension plan I have ever heard of after so many years you are vested. I don't think they can take that pension away unless the pension plan itself goes bankrupt.

Ah. I've read that it varies a good bit from state to state on what and when it be garnished or forfeited, if it all. For example, Derek Chauvin will get his pension even after killing George Floyd because there aren't any forfeit or garnishment laws in Minnesota. Some have forfeit and garnishment laws for public officials, but not police officers.
