How about your physical condition is such you cannot perform to the gator standard. If you need to hit the weight room and get stronger, do agility training, gain weight, lose weight..it does not matter. It is NOT wrong to tell any athlete they are not in in playing condition and toe the line or hit the road.

You can't always judge a players physical condition by her size. In 2015 Bailey Castro, a much bigger girl than Lexie batted 297 and hit 17 homeruns.

It would be body shaming if the OP just commented on Delbrey's size. But the OP's point was the change -- Delbrey had put on weight since last year and suggesting a link to her injury, rehab, and decline in performance. Fair game.

True. But Castro did not have a large weight change from one year to the next.

Pretty sure Bailey’s conditioning improved pretty noticeably during her career.

I have no idea, but maybe she just wanted to get on with her life and start a career. It's not like softball players have million dollar salaries to look forward to as pros.

Rather than escalate this to a level that neither of us would want, I will accept the criticism and move on. I’m still celebrating BT’s walkoff homerun.

Wellen enters the portal. I'm not too shocked she was basically used as a pinch runner. She probably wasn't going to see too much playing time.

Someone said Florida is going to lose 5 or 6 players to the portal. Although, it's hard to tell if she is close to the program or just an outsider looking in.

That would be scary and would mean CTW would have to be out there getting a bunch of players to transfer in. 20 on this year's roster minus the 8 graduates minus Delbrey & Wallen leaves us with 10 current players plus the 6 incoming freshmen. We have 16 now and if any more leave, that means heavy portal reliance.

We looking to come out positive or negative in this year's transfer portal?

Even harder knowing that he has less than 7 full scholarships left to work with. Hard to entice a player to come to UF for a 25% scholly.

We have to depend on Bright’s scholarships meaning we have to recruit Florida girls and hopefully the recruits we want can get financial aid as well.

True, but NIL money can make a big difference. That grad transfer pitcher from Michigan who went to Oklahoma got $50,000 plus a new truck from what I read.

True, but I can tell you with certainty that we do not have that kind of money available and Coach Walton does not want to spend money on any one player. They have an exact amount of NIL money and it is being distributed evenly to all rostered players.

Understand. But if we're going to treat NIL in softball the same way we've done in football we fall behind the curve and let other teams buy better players. Times have changed and if our AD and his coaches don't change with it, the programs will suffer.

It’s changing but it will be slow. We have several hundred Bull Gators that give over 16k a year to the football program, you have an idea how many people donate 4/5 figures to softball? Not too many.

It’s up to the NIL entities to take money raised for football and allocate it to softball and not too many colleges will do that. That is why we are ahead of the curve when it comes to softball NIL as we have people that donated specifically for softball.

The good thing is this year Tim has NIL money to work with.

It was worth the drive to Tampa to see her first (and turned out to be only) hit, which drove in two runs. Casual fans in the stands applauded but wondered why the UF bench went absolutely nuts, given that we were already up by 15 runs. Good times.

I was in Florida at the time and it was one of the few games I have seen the ladies play in person. It was toward the end of the game, bad weather was coming in and I think TW was completely emptying his bench in hopes of getting a complete game in quicky before the rain. Olivia even had a grand slam. It was fun to watch.

These ladies are athletes playing a sport. We criticize the weight of football players all the time when they can't take weight off or have gained too much weight. Why should there be a different standard for women's sports? I've also always wondered why male athlete's weights are listed but not females.
