The majority of the US population supports abortion rights as do the majority of Floridians. I am not aware of any abortion issue decided by the voters as opposed to their neanderthal legislative bodies where the pro-abortion position didn't prevail, even in the reddest of states. Florida will have a pro-abortion constitutional amendment on the ballot in 2024 as will many other states. It will drive voter turn out, this issue will be resolved and women will once again have control over their bodies in this state. The far right fringe can go back to inventing biblical references they desperately want to support their position.

Just an FYI, the 4 million subscribers isn’t what it seems. Almost all of those subscribers were from India where they pay $20 a year. Disney gained about 4 million subscribers when it acquired cricket rights in its Fox acquisition and the same number of subscribers left when Disney+ lost those streaming rights (out bid by Paramount). Outside of that Disney+ is still growing revenue - i think they saw an additional drop associated with raising their prices but they increased their revenue.

Their stock price is now the same as it was 9 years ago. That is awful for any corporation. People keep trying to say DIS is doing well overall, well the shareholders sure don't think so. Stock is down 50% since they announced the deal. That in itself is more than enough to give pause to huge capital outflows. And do you have a link saying almost all the 4 million subscribers were from India?

Oh, and more layoffs. Yeah, DIS is doing awesome...

Hmmm, Why does this article say DIS is trying to focus on "stemming it's losses in its streaming division" if it was just India subscribers they lost?

Disney to cut over 2,500 jobs in third wave of layoffs

More than 2,500 staffers are expected to lose their jobs, following two previous rounds of cuts in March and April, meant to help the company restructure and focus on stemming its losses in its streaming division.

Those two rounds eliminated 4,000 jobs, including at ESPN, Disney’s entertainment unit, Disney parks and its Experiences and Product division.

The cuts are part of Disney CEO Bob Iger’s plan to save $5.5 billion in costs, which would include axing 7,000 jobs in three waves before the start of summer.

Despite this being a global reorganization Disney has a lot of irons in the fire with some, like its theme parks doing very well, with other parts, like streaming in China, not as productive. Disney is reorganizing to get rid of what’s not working but as a company they’re doing very well.

Can you name me another company doing "very well" who's stock price is the same as it was 9 years ago? The answer is there isn't one. Disney is not doing well and the stock price being stagnant over 9 years says it all.

I don’t have to because your premise is flawed. Ten years ago Disney was selling at $65.49 per share, and today it’s at $89.82 per share so their stock is hardly stagnant.

OK, let's play your game. I'll just do the DOW and the SPY 500 since then(2 most used indicators of stock growth). Let's see what those rates of return were?

DIS Annual rate of return: 4.19%

SPY Annual rate of return: 11.67%

DIA Annual rate of return: 10.36%

So the SPY 500 averages almost 3 times the return and the DOW averages about 2.5 times what DIS returned. Yeah, awesome job! I get that it doesn't fit the narrative that DIS stock is down from 5 years ago and down 50% since they announced this expansion. And any company laying off thousands isn't in expansion mode for the most part.

What in hell are you trying to prove with that? Disney is an entertainment company and SPY is an investment firm. That’s like comparing an auto mechanic to a tuna fisherman. Run along kid.

SPY Isn't an investment firm. SPY is the culmination of 500 of the largest stocks. Basically buying the largest 500 stocks in the US. So yes, it's a very good comparison. Anyone thinking DIS is doing well is beyond having a rational conversation with. No one lays off thousands of people when things are going well. Stock down below where it was 9 years ago. That's never good. But hey, keep thinking DIS doing great LOL.

LOL, yes it is. I'll break it down some more. Here is DIS vs Comcast over the last 10 years LOL. Comcast is double over 10 years versus what DIS returns. It's ok to admit DIS isn't doing well. You might want to stick to things you know more about.

Since we’re talking about stock prices all of a sudden I just want to congratulate myself on for buying 50K worth of NVDA at $85 and never selling even in the depths of despair last year. Didn’t quite work out the same for META but I’m up 100% for the year and almost back to unch.

Makes up for for the ill advised bets in and out on triple leveraged Nat gas funds a few years back

Energy stocks were a great trade off of their lows. Buying the sector when oil was negative may have been one of the most obvious macro-economic trades of all time. Off their peak of course, so maybe time to sell wasn’t as obvious (that’s how it generally works lol).

If you lost money dabbling in triple leverage, it just shows what a scam those leveraged ETF’s are. Based on what I’ve read about them, they should basically be illegal for most investors. (If they have any use at all, seems like just very short term hedging, but nobody should hold as a solo position unless they like lighting money on fire).
