Oh everything I wrote was in reference to 2006. My comments initially dealt with 05 and 06 but when you said 06 wasn't that good I responded. My mistake if I mixed it all up.

Eh maybe I mixed it up if the discussion was a fantasy matchup between 2006 UF and the better teams from 2005.

I guess I would lean toward them being a better matchup against a running team in Texas. I would trust that run defense against Vince Young and Jamaal Charles and not a great passing offense more than I would trust the pass defense against Dwayne Jarrett and Steve Smith, while also guarding against Reggie Bush and LenDale White.

Yeah USC had a wealth of options on offense but the counter to that could have been Reggie Nelson shutting down those deep balls USC smoked Oklahoma with and our defensive line teeing off on Leinart. Bush would be the toughest issue in my opinion.

Fun discussion on a rainy day

Possibly, but also keep in mind that bringing back Spurrier would have most likely retained the vast majority of the No. 1 Recruiting class that Zook had assembled.

And Leak with Spurs may have been a different animal.

Leak was the prototype SOS QB. He put up SOS QB type #s under three different OC's. But back to how we get back to competing. Jimmies and Joes. Kirby aint some savant coach like SOS and neither is Satan. THey have the players, Lots of them (like Raymond said in Rainman). When you put an NFL def. on the field like Kirby has the last two years along with the best TE in football and a decent QB you just stay out of the way. The talent level is unreal. He learned that from Satan. Just get a shtt load of NFL talent and the wins will come.

I think all the coaches know it’s talent but what is each particular school willing to do to get there.

  8. Stadium and Gale podcast actually had staples on a couple of days ago and they broke it down...

It's a lot more insightful than the actual article. Very good listen if you get a chance.

Saban was a NFL defensive coordinator when he was 39, and back then the league didn’t have as many young coaches as now. He’s legitimately an excellent defensive coach on the level Spurrier would be to offense.

Remind me who all was in that potential class? I recall Derrick Williams who went to Penn State but that is all.

Now you’re going into too much detail for my memory. I just remember being at No.1 for verbals and watching about half the class go elsewhere between October and December when Meyer was hired

Not true... pedigree only matter for the last twenty years, otherwise Harvard or other Ivy League powerhouses from years past would still matter.

What have you done for me lately? True statement. Who cares about the 60s, 70s or even 80s. Our Spurrier reign in the 90s is fast becoming irrelevant nowadays.

Pedigree and history of last twenty years is all that matters.

    Spot on.

Georgia did nothing from 1982 to 2017. Look at them now.

With the right coach fortunes can turn quickly. Really hoping Napier is the guy.

Uh, ESPN likes them a whole bunch as well and has a four-hour advertisement to promote the current state of affairs every weekday.

I think the "pedigree" period for recruits is probably more like 10 years ... at most!

Most recruits are 16 or 17. They may ACTIVELY start watching TV games and comprehend what's going on around age 6 or 7. The kids being recruited right now probably don't even remember Tim Tebow or the Meyer era. These may have heard about the glory years and seen videos, but they don't remember a season that UF was even close to an elite team.

I don't think we need to win NCs to become relevant again but we need to have some regularity where we finish in the top 10 and make the CFP. This is a big part of the problem UF, FSU and Miami have all been dealing with.

I'd need to see the ratings to make a judgement. I just know a lot of people who are basically off the sport. Maybe not their specific teams, but off following the sport in general. I literally only watch Gator games now. Rest is dead to me.

Considering that Vandy was the original Southern pre-SEC powerhouse for nearly 20 years, I would have to agree with this statement.
