I think that would be a weird thing to do, and BTW, the Satanists aren't doing that, it seems perfectly in line with what the church of Satan is about and has been about for as long as I've been aware of them.

Like I said, "popular expression" doesn't need to be defended ...

    1. I know this isn't the point of the club, but I would think that worship directed at any of the big three major faiths in the US (Christianity, Judaism, Islam) is better than worship (including satirical) worship of Satan. And I know legally speaking, the public school must treat all religions the same. Another case of what you can do versus what you should do. And I'm not blaming the public school, I'm blaming the nincompoops who started this.
    2. Do you have evidence of Christians pushing children into Christianity on threat of eternal damnation? Or is this just outrage over a bunch of Christian groups voluntarily meeting after school?

I recall at least one Christian group/club in high school but don't recall any back in elementary school, which is what's referenced upthread. I don't know how it works, but I assume there must be adults (parents, teachers, or otherwise) involved in forming and planning for the religious clubs involving students that young?

I agree, and that’s begs the question as to why individuals and groups remain silent, afraid of calling out one of their own, when the actions and words are damaging to the entire group?

I was under the impression that they're these external organizations run by adults having meetings on campus in a manner intended to attract children.

    But I really don't know.

I would imagine there are rules for supervision in elementary schools if students are welcome to attend.

Taking children to church is indoctrination. I had a friend at lake Brantley a million years ago who went away for a weekend with young life. He left for the weekend a person of reason. He came back a Christian. It was sad to see.

Sure ... and I've posted this before, but when I was younger is it was very common for other kids to invite you to their "dance club" or "party", and after a while of being there at "the club" (which was a store front unit that looked like a legit teen dance club, not a church), the music stops and some dude comes out ranting about saving your soul from hell and wants everyone to hold hands and pray together... the old bait and switch ... my wife, and several people I know, had the same thing happen. When My wife was a teen, she went to someone's "party" (which also was not at a church) and was taken into the back room and 3 or 4 people ganged up on her about damnation and accepting Jesus ... my experience left me wondering, "if Christianity is so great, why do they need to lie about it to get you in the building"...

If this friend was an adult, he has a right to believe what he wants to believe, and he has rights to seek out Christianity. And Christians have a right to communicate their message with him.

If he was a child, and was brought to church by his parents... parents have a right to raise kids in whatever values they want.

That's without even getting into the point that Christianity is inherently good, we don't even need to have that discussion here.

grew up S. baptist & gots plenty of stories. But, more recently, I took my daughter to a father/daughter dance for 6 years. They just insta cut the music & then deliver a misogynistic going to hell rant. Always took that time to leave & go hit the food & drink in the lobby. Not letting those groomers brainwash my baby.

That makes sense. I can't remember if the Christian group I was thinking of (maybe it was Fellowship of Christian Athletes but there may have been more than one Christian club) got together during the lunch hour or whether it was before or after school. Maybe there are different models that differ with respect to the extent to which parents or teachers might be taking the lead. By high school, I would think many clubs/groups are essentially student-led.

    So these were other students?

I mean, they shouldn't have done the bait-and-switch, but if kids want to invite other kids in school to their Christian meetings after school, even if it's on school property... that should be their right too.

I also think that's very different from adults targeting children without the consent of the parents trying to convert them with threats like that.

Wasnt there some field trip at some school in Texas that basically did this? I seem to remember a thread about it.

I recall one of my kids high school or middle school had an atheists club. As an atheist, I wondered what was the point? Having a club bonded by lack of belief in something? It would be like having a club for people that didn’t believe in Santa clause (not meant to be offensive to religious people, but if you really don’t believe, why do it)

These kind of groups were the original reddit basically, a place where nerds could dress in capes, gather and discuss esoteric ideas and obsessions

It was always other students who did the invites under false pretenses, but in my case, it was an adult that came out preaching. IIRC, in my wife's case, it was a mixture of adults and kids that took my wife in the backroom for her "saving"....

I mean, this doesn't completely apply here, because it's pretty hard to disguise a Christian club at school, but I could see it being a high-pressure sale once they get a new kid in the doors. I'm embarrassed to say I went along with it -- I was probably 14 or 15 -- and they singled out the new kids in front everybody and everyone is staring at you to see what you do ...
