What it costs to raise a child varies depending on your wealth. It's not unreasonable to expect a person to devote a fraction of their income to supporting their kid, whether or not the kid lives with them.

I don’t know whether you support Trump or DeSantis, but chances are you do, and these people have done things way more detestable than what you are talking about. But, let’s see. My son impregnates a young woman during a period of time when my son is in a drug-induced haze. He ends up paying the woman several millions of dollars in addition to very high child support payments. The woman has not been very kind to my son since then to put it mildly. My son has never seen his daughter and doesn’t treat her as his daughter other than his recognition that he has a financial obligation. So, although my son has nothing to do with the girl, should I be bucking my son’s wishes and treating her like I do my other grandchildren? I probably wouldn’t because of the situation between my son and the child’s mother. But, to each his own. Clearly, if my son was involved with the girl, then I would be to.

It is unfortunate the Hunter is not man enough to acknowledge his own daughter, regardless of the circumstances of her conception. I understand Joe's decision to not go against his son's wishes, but that is also unfortunate too.

Even if Joe prefers to not acknowledge the child, i would not be outraged. That probably happens a lot with “illegitimate” children. The child support falls on the biological parents. It doesn’t extend to the grandparents. If Hunter has zero relationship with the woman or child, it seems to me it would be somewhat strange for a grandfather to go around the son to form a relationship. I assume Joe would be like most grandparents and prefer to meet the grandchild, but that isn’t always to be.
